frag racks

wow, what a difference these new racks make. Not only does it look better but the flow has increased . The fact that I cleaned my tunzes helps as well. I actually had to decrease the flow on the tunzes. I also had to lower the vat level so the water wouldnt splash out:D

rustybucket145 01/05/2008 03:48 PM

:D Must be rack making week!! hehe... They look nice, Macho's layout is really nice, I like the levels. I'm actually waiting on some pvc to dry right now so I can paint it. My new racks will be based off of my original 'floating rack' design where the rack is suspended by fishing line from the top of the tank. Not all of us have MONSTER VATS to put our racks in ;). I'll post some pics in my thread later today.

Lookin good Redox!! Looking real damn good!! :D

Thanks rustyb I have been waiting for some updated pics of your sunroom project. I have had great success with mangrove growth. Even the mangroves that apear to be dead seem to come back to life eventually . This mangrove has fallen over and has coraline growing on it from saltwater splash[IMG][/IMG] It looks dead but new roots are growing out
montipora is only 4" below the surface[IMG][/IMG]
night shot of the sps vat, shows two seperate chromis schools [IMG][/IMG]

chromis has stayed small

This little guy is the original size that all 200 chromis I put in well over a year ago were. But he has stayed the same size?[IMG][/IMG]
him again[IMG][/IMG]
he is so small[IMG][/IMG]
He seems to be guarding over this little frag. [IMG][/IMG]

top shelf empty

With the addition of the new racks I have lots of new space. The vat seems empty now. The top shelf is only 4" below the surface so I must be careful what corals I place there. All the tangs in the vat (3) have adjusted to the removal of the 4"pvc pipe that was a home to them. I simply took the pile of live rock that was on the left side of the vat and made three piles in seperate locations. They all found new homes and all is good. The clown is back to clownin around[IMG][/IMG]
This acro is connected to the bottom and the racks were built around it[IMG][/IMG]
Here is one of the piles of rock that actually has a montipora that came in with the live rock[IMG][/IMG]

The damsels have split from one school to two seperate schools[IMG][/IMG]
For some reason when I find one dead on the floor it is a big one. Never small always the biggest?[IMG][/IMG]

Machado deSousa 01/08/2008 03:51 AM

Fishes have more room to hide. Now you have a better view from above. Good job.

fatrip 01/08/2008 08:04 AM

very nice job. that clam looks HUGE. how far up is the side of the vat for the chromis to jump out of?

Snarlax 01/09/2008 07:03 PM

What's the purpose of those black things over the Schurans?

H20ENG 01/09/2008 07:36 PM

Probably to simply cut algae growth. We did this to a lot of equipment at work. Really cuts maintenance down.

fishes are fighting

Machado the new setup actally has caused unrest amongst my fishes. I did away with some of their hiding places. Now they must fight for new teritories. fatrip thankyou for the compliment. The water in my sps vat is really wavy and causes the water to flow right up to the edges of the vat. There is no saftey to keep the fish from jumping. All I can do is make them happy so they wont want to jump;) .Snarlax yes h20 hit the nail on the head. I use landscapers weed block fabric to cut out light transmission. It alows me to use up an entire cylider of media with no algae getting in the way:D

fatrip 01/10/2008 07:58 AM

you could make a safty net...lol...very good idea on the weed block fabric. that clown tang is very pretty, wish i had a bigger tank for one.

redox 01/10/2008 05:20 PM

saftey net

fatrip I have lost some really nice fish to suicide:eek: I have often thought about putting plexiglass sides up around the vats .I have put eggcrate over them when new fish were added ,but I still loose a fish now and then. It breaks my heart too see one dead on the floor:( . That is why I dont name fish, one less heart break in life.

fatrip 01/10/2008 05:40 PM

it wouldnt be to hard to put up a thin plexy wall around the vat. put hinges on the sides you need access to. i know what you mean i've had a few fish take a carpet ride. not fun:(.

reefdude420 01/11/2008 12:43 AM

I would love to come see you set-up!! I usually make quite a few surfing expeditions out to OBX every spring and summer. Let me know how you feel about myself and my girlfriend stopping by sometime.

redox 01/11/2008 06:27 AM

I welcome all visitors. surfs up dude;)

redox 01/11/2008 05:52 PM

major diatom bloom on the new racks:eek2:

rottbo 01/11/2008 08:23 PM
