Galaxea and other LPS
 

I have two galaxea frags in a 5.5 gallon tank. Would like to add branching euphyllia and have those be the only corals. Each would have it's own rock bommie and the galaxea would be downstream as I know they're aggressive. Would these normally be found together in nature. If not what grows near galaxea?

What other fish/inverts would be appropriate in this biotope ?

It is my understanding that a galaxia will beat almost anything in a turf war

Can't say that I know if they're found together in nature. I have a branching hammer above my galaxia. There are no problems there so far. Seems like my flow is downstream but the galaxia's sweepers still manage to go up.

do galaxia like high flow??

From what I've noticed yes. I've had mine for over a year, it was actually my first coral. Most of it died off because I didn't know what I was doing as far as flow and stuff goes. Once we upped the flow it came back around full force, very beautiful coral but respect it, it packs quite a punch.

I think the key is to try to direct your flow in a manner that causes the tentacles to sway downcurrent away from other corals.

I do want one, but I am tight on space. Exactly how much space should they have from other corals.

Well I've seen the sweepers on mine almost top off at 8". They need room. They are IMO the most aggressive coral. They don't sting for food, they sting for space.

not enough room in your 5.5. they will destroy each other and even if there was, they would quickly outgrow it and destroy each other

Actually I want the Galaxea to outgrow the tank ;) .

The rock pile they're on is made up of several about 2" pieces of rubble. Once it spreads and covers the mound I'll propagate the frags and start over with a new mound.

The Euphyllia is cancelled for another reason. I tried a small frag in the tank and the higher flow for the galaxea is too strong for the euphyllia.

IME they grow fairly slowly.
