Reeftanks6 90g reef build thread ( pic intense)

This is my 90g reef build thread for my upgrade from my 37 gallon which is currently holding.

Jawfish(will move to bigger tank)
Sailfin(will move to bigger tank)
2 clowns(will move to bigger tank)
Shrimp(will move to bigger tank maybe) (or go back to store)
Damsel (going back to store)
Hippo(going back to store)
Still need to get
Light
I also need the plumbing this will be done hopefully over the weekend if i don't get sidetracked.

This is the Tank, Pump, Fish room, sump and fuge. My fish room is down in my basement and the tank is upstairs. There will be pipes running up from the basement to the tank because of the heat that i will have.

anybody

jcpatella 12/28/2007 10:55 PM

Hey! I'll be sticking around to watch how your build turns out!

yellowwatchmen 12/28/2007 10:56 PM

Nice start. What are you going to do for lighting?

melev 12/28/2007 10:56 PM

If you are going to have a Mag 18 return pump, plus the water has to drop 10+ feet down, I think you'll need a bigger sump to deal with the microbubble issue. How big (inches and gallons) is the sump?

I sure love seeing brand new tanks. It's always so exciting.

Reeftanks6 12/28/2007 10:58 PM

lol thanks guys lighting is not the brightest but i think this is a nice light

as for the sump it is 35 or 40 gallons

melev 12/28/2007 11:04 PM

Eight T5 bulbs over a 90g? Yeah, you'll have plenty of light.

yellowwatchmen 12/28/2007 11:05 PM

are you planning on keeping softies, LPS and a few SPS or what?

sm51498 12/28/2007 11:16 PM

^^ I think the issue with those lights is that they don't have individual reflectors but I do believe it'll be plenty for most anything except the more demanding sps.

The sailfin looks like it's showed him who's boss.

SeaSerpant 12/28/2007 11:36 PM

I am just can't wait to see what it turns out to look like. so far i see that you have it shaping out quite well. Do you have all your supplies for your aquarium?

flyguy7150 12/28/2007 11:44 PM

subscribed, get some water in there :)

db_triggerfish 12/28/2007 11:48 PM

good start, keep the pics coming this weekend i will post my pics from my 2 week old 75g. I have ic 660 but have always like the light output on the nova fixtures. They are very bright. Wish i had a basement fish room.

kynan 12/29/2007 01:24 AM

I second the mag pump issue...I would go external with more head/ less watts. Those mags are not that efficient.

Think about your stand, if you don't need your sump on the floor, move it up to a higher level, and notch your fuge a bit higher. Save on the head pressure; increase your flow, lessen the juice.

Save another headache and drill the fuge; buy some Hong Kong ebay bits; they work well; it's easy, and less worrys!

Reeftanks6 12/29/2007 06:37 AM

I am planning on keeping some LPS, SPS. The deal with the tang i got this a while ago and it game down with HLLE head and litheral line disease. I will try to get water in the tank by this weekend if i have time to get the plumbing and if not it will be Monday hopefully. I know the mag pump is not the best but i think iam going to just stick with it.

Reeftanks6 12/29/2007 06:42 AM

i also might one to get two tunze pumps because i will not have as much flow because iam going from down the basement. I will either go with one or do depending on how much flow i have

JediReefer 12/29/2007 06:49 AM

At 10' straight up the Mag 18 does 850gph. It will drop more depending on how you design your return plumbing.

Reeftanks6 12/29/2007 06:54 AM

my pump does 1800. yea the water will drop a lot faster but i am going to t it of for one to go to the fuge and one to the sump so it will be a little slower

JediReefer 12/29/2007 07:00 AM

Yes it does 1800gph at a 0' head. Not up through the basement.

Reeftanks6 12/29/2007 07:02 AM

yea your right i am just going to stick with it for know and see how it goes from then

melev 12/29/2007 07:03 AM

You'll need to use larger plumbing that the threads on that pump to deal with the head pressure. A Mag 18 has 1" threads. I would use 1.5" to 2" pipe from the pump all the way up to the tank, and reduce it down right at the bulkhead.

Be sure to put a union on the pump, and then connect the plumbing to the union. That way you can unscrew the union when you need to remove the pump for cleaning.

Reeftanks6 12/29/2007 07:04 AM

ok i will do that

Reeftanks6 12/29/2007 07:06 AM

i will also be making with the plumbing that has three parts that you can turn the knob to stop the water so when i remove something or need to put something in i can just stop the water and take it out and clean
