Are Conch's Poisonous?

My friend just called me and said that one of his books indicates that conches are extremely poisonous. He didn't indicate which type but assured me he wasn't confusing them with cone shells. Anyone heard about this? I recommended he get a fighting conch because I dig mine but I certainly had no idea that they were dangerous. I'm assuming this is a mistake. Comments? :eek1:

Squid, No conches are not poisonous. He must be confusing them with a cone shell or certain whelks.

In fact, conches are a large food source in many Caribbean countries.

Queen Conch is very tasty. It's very common in Conch fritters, but I suspect that those are made from smaller pieces scraped from the shells and trimmed off of the larger cuts. The best way to eat them is sliced and seared on a grill with garlic butter.....so if you run out of algae.......

Shame on you squeezix. Promoting conch fritters on a reef board. I hope you don't talk like that in front of your tank. They might quit working for you.

OH man this is good stuff. Your right.
Better with the Garlic butter.

Bon Appetit

My mom makes conch fritters once in a while. I don't eat it. Maybe i will try one next time.:D It does look preeeety good. Whenever we make our trip to Belize(in the Carribean) she brings a lot back to the states.
