September 15th MARS Meeting

The regular monthly MARS meeting will be held on Friday, September 15, 2006 at Roundtable Pizza, 9500 Greenback Lane, Folsom, CA 95630 at 7:00 pm.
The speaker for this month will be Bruce Azzarito of Captive Reef Systems. Bruce was our speaker last month, and due to popular demand, he will be presenting again Friday night. His presentation will deal with large aquariums and their operation. (This is not the same presentation as the one in July.)
We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!

CaptiveReefSystems 09/14/2006 12:44 AM

Again, if there is something you would like me to address, please let me know so I can include it in my presentation.

Thanks,
Bruce

Reefugee 09/14/2006 10:29 AM

Dang... I can't make it. :(

ReefRian 09/14/2006 10:46 AM

Yeah, I'm sure you have more important things to do that night!

We were hoping to make it to, but will be out of town Friday. Hope you all have a fun time.

Rian

Thanks James! I really enjoyed his last presentation. He made me reconsider water flow, which I addressed. I also enjoyed seeing his projects and would enjoy more viewing of the same.

Richard, the light question would depend on whether or not you are using a fixture or retrofit lighting.

FunGuy 09/15/2006 12:24 AM

Way out? Minh is still a member. He'll be at other meetings. :P heh.

Reefugee 09/15/2006 02:17 AM

Hey Chris,

A week ago - I was pretty sure that I was just going to quite. But a week without any political crap sure is nice. And I exchanged email with some of the current and former BOD member to mend fences.

Now I am just looking forward to being an active members without any of the political junk. :D

Well minh, Id hate to see you leave. Your a great guy, Glad to see you stay.

Also, A topic to maybe touch on is the difference's, disadvantages and benefits of DSB, SSB or BB tanks. If that is something you have information on.

Brian Prestwood 09/15/2006 03:41 PM

Hey Bruce

I'd like to hear about controlling nitrates when you are using phosphate removal materials like RowaPhos. Does a DSB do the trick?

I'd also like to know how long it takes for RowaPhos to saturate when there is more phosphate than the recommended dose can remove?

Right on! See you next time.

Brian Prestwood 09/16/2006 10:27 AM

Bruce

The pictures of the construction alone were worth the time.

Good talk, thanks.

thereefgeek 09/16/2006 10:51 AM

Bruce gave me a ton of pointers and helpful ideas when I set up my 200 almost 2 years ago. The best idea was the circ & loop pumps out in the garage.

Thanks again Bruce

CaptiveReefSystems 09/16/2006 12:42 PM

Thank you. Your opinion means a lot.

goslugsgo 09/16/2006 01:18 PM

If I may ask, what was Bruce's rationale for putting the pumps in the garage and what benefits have you seen? I am plumbing in the next week or ttwo and have the opportunity to do this.
Thanks.

Brian Prestwood 09/16/2006 01:26 PM

Keeps the noise away from the viewers and the heat away from the tank.

CaptiveReefSystems 09/16/2006 01:41 PM

also, leaks are in the garage and not in your home. Carpet and hardwood floors do not like saltwater.

Fragmented 09/16/2006 01:48 PM

Good presentation again. Two for two. Thanks Bruce.

Wee-Reef Master 09/17/2006 01:11 PM

Agreed! Great job Bruce! Very much appreciated!!

goslugsgo 09/17/2006 05:08 PM

Thanks!
