enough light for a clam????

would a 70 M H on a 24 gallon tank be enough for a clam

skinz78 01/01/2008 02:03 PM

no you need at least 150w

boxerzz 01/02/2008 09:07 AM

depending on the depth of your tank, I think it would be a reasonable amount of light.

redneck3298 01/02/2008 10:16 AM

it's only a 24 gallon aqua pod it about 18 inches deep

bsagecko 01/02/2008 08:51 PM

they are probably squamosa's or derasa's and will outgrow his tank in a matter of months

redneck3298 01/02/2008 10:37 PM

i know for sure he had a corcea and the other was a squamosa

skinz78 01/03/2008 12:06 AM

Crocea's and Maxima's are the most light demanding clams.

Not the best but it will work. 150 watt would be better. Place high and feed with phyto weekly.

rwbogard 01/11/2008 12:47 PM

In my experiences, ou need at least 150W (preferably 10K or 14K) for adequate growth, however I would recommend 250W or higher for the best coloration and mantle expansion. Ionic balance (Ca/Alk) is just as important.

Also, I never fed any phyto and had excellent success. There may be benefits to dosing phyto, although its been show in studies thats photosynthetic clams rarely utilize anything filtered (unlike non-photosynthetic counterparts). Although, to each their own.
