Wrasse selection

I have been witnessing pods and bristleworms eating a fine colony of Zoas I have in my 30 G reef.
I am buying a worm trap today and wrasse for the pods.

I was thinking a sixline wrasse. Can anyone quicky affirm this.
Thanks

sixline's are great. I just picked up a juvi red coris wrasse and he is constantly hovering the reef and eating pods. I had the same issue and that issue is gone now.

Yes I need to go buy one of these toosince i have baby starfish easting my zoos... I just called Petco today actually and they don't have any until maybe Thursday.

Sixlines will not help with Asterinas... Also be aware that they are an aggressive fish... So depending on the rest of your stocking list, proceed with caution... They will decimate a pod population though and will help with smaller bristle worms...

How about a filamented flasher wrasse. mine does wonders with the pods! :)

He likes to flash A LOT! When he does he turns a nice blue/purple color! So awesome! Trying to get video of it but he's shy around the cameras! Silly guy

Look for a yellow coris or green sea grass wrasse.. you won't be dissapointed.

These guys are my clean up crew. A lemon meringue wrasse and a rosy scales. When I am cleaning the tank the lemon meringue will swim around my hand to check out what's in it ...no fear.

I had several Yellow Coris, but they went carpet surfing (yes through eggcrate). They did a good job.... I now have a Hoevens Wrasse and its doing just as good of a job and is really an attractive wrasse.

Royal,
I had Asterinas and the ONLY thing that worked to completely get rid of them was a Harlequin Shrimp. The downside to that is, once the Asterinas are gone, the Harlequin Shrimp will more than likely starve. That is, unless it will eat artificial or frozen food.

Good Luck

get chocolate chip stars a couple of them, cut out a leg and feed to the harlequins, then drop the star back in the sump to heal. You could have a couple and hold them in the sump to harvest. Or buy a couple, freeze, cut and drop in the tank to feed them. Not the ideal way but people do this.

gregsrock79, is that flasher wrasse aggressive too? Are they hardy?
Also, I have heard the six line is a hardy fish, the ones at my petstore just arrived yesterday, is that too soon to pick one up, or should they stay for a week or 2 to see if they are healthy? Is that Meringue aggressive, hardy?

I have a yellow coris wrasse and he does a great job, he also eats nudi's.

6lines are KNOWN to be aggressive or will get aggressive in time. Just browse RC./ personal experiences.

Flashers/fairies/leopards similar type wrasses are the most docile of the wrasses family same as with cirrhilbalrus type wrasses. Unlike the pseudochelinus type wrasses which from a lot of folks are agressive and have been known to kill other wrasses which are more docile.

I have a yellow coris wrasse and a orange/ purple fairy wrasse and they do wonders, but watching the tank, I think the coris is the better "worker".

DrBegalke 01/11/2008 08:43 PM

In a 220, you could go with a Mandarin.

rsteagall 01/11/2008 10:55 PM

I've been thinking about getting a wrasse for my frag tank... it appears many of you are having good luck wiht the yellow coris. Obviously I want something that works hard that will clean things that I might add well. Do you guys witness the yellow coris actually picking stuff directly off zoos or other corals?
