Moving Up
 

I'm thinking of moving up my 75g fowlr to my 125g. I'm wondering how much more different kinds of fish I could keep and how many. Could I keep one of the larger angelfish. Also could I keep 3 tangs. I'm wondering if it'll will be worth all the work its gonna take.

It will depend on what's in your 75, and how the 125 is set up. You could maybe keep a larger angelfish that doesn't get over a foot long (maybe a majestic or a pair of Genicanthus). I don't think I'd keep three tangs in a tank that size, maybe two of the smaller, less aggressive species (NOT sohal, naso, vlamingi, etc.)

What do you want to keep in the tank? If you post a stock list, it would be easier to respond with useful information.

The only fish that is definitely going into the 125g is my finespot fairy wrasse. What I'm wanting is a butterfly, a large angel, couple tangs, 6-8 fairy/flasher wrasses, and maybe a couple other fish that would fit in. If a larger angel isn't a good option in a 125g and I could only keep a couple tangs, I don't know if it would be worth the work.

couple tangs, could be a zebra is some kind like a yellow or purple... also some of the britsletooths are great fish for a tank like that. Koles, tominis, chevrons...

you could keep a larger (meaning non-dwarf) angel in that sized tank. I'd avoid keeping any of the largest angels, that get over a foot long - that still leaves you a few nice choices. Scott Michael's book on angelfishes and butterflies would be a great place to start researching your selection. It provides aquarium suitability ratings, adult sizes and other great information. Especially with butterflies, you really need to research aquarium suitability - so many don't do well because of dietary issues (like being obligate coralivores).

you could keep a few of the smaller tangs, as well. I love mimic tangs (chocolate tang). I'd avoid the ones that get really big and the ones that are very aggressive or delicate. That still leaves you with some nice choices.

since you want fairy/flasher wrasses, be sure the top is well covered and that you don't have any fish that will be too aggressive or competitive with the wrasses.

I would never NOT upgrade to a larger tank whenever I could, but no one that isn't an aquarium hobbyist thinks I'm quite right in the head. :)

1 harlequin tusk
1 kole tang
1 Powder tang (blue or brown
1 purple tang
1 butterfly (whatever would be suitable)

I know I'm a little heavy on tangs but I'm hoping that the different genus will help. I have 135lbs of live rock so far and I plan on adding 40lbs of marco rocks, then one of my monster canisters or a wet dry. I know that both of those are looked down upon but this isn't a reef and it will give me enough filtration. All comments are welcome.
