Good luck with it mate.

sherm71tank 12/07/2007 09:04 PM

Back from town with a 6er of Storm King! Also I'm ready to empty the waste collector from the Beckett skimmer and the EX2 has only collected water. You want an EX2 J?

jnarowe 12/07/2007 09:19 PM

yeah, I can run that on my sump!

Thanks Chris.

dhnguyen 12/07/2007 09:20 PM

 I thought your EX2 was skimming like a madman what happened Sherm?

jnarowe 12/07/2007 09:23 PM

Sherman just can't get away from that wicked beckett...he tries, oh how he tries, but well, the proof is in the cup. It's funny to see his sump with side-by-side skimmers, both of which are rated for tanks 3 x the size of his.

Another split...gotta tag along some more for the ride...

Hope the whole crazing issue gets sorted out to your benefit, and every one elses...

jnarowe 12/08/2007 02:40 AM

Good to see you Jason. I know these splits can screw up the ol' subscriptions...

In case anyone cares, Sherman just had to be removed forcefuily by my LOVING wife. Turns out that 14 beers and 8 shots are too much for the old boy, and his pants started to smell bad.

He's a good guy though, and whatever you do, don't ask him about his sister. He's a little sensative about that deal. God love him though, he could kill you with his pinkie.

mrcrab 12/08/2007 07:15 AM

Hey Sherman...what can you tell me about your sister?

sherm71tank 12/08/2007 01:45 PM

I have a sister?

Crap. You said she was your sister.

Ive been following along here. Sure makes my seio pumps that I bought 2-3 years back for 45 bucks look pretty good about now. I sure hope those guys do the right thing by you and replace your tank. I almost bought a Envision tank from James. I still wish I had saved my money a little longer and got the tank from him. He does beautiful work. Everyone down here in Portland uses him. But I like my new tank and the price was right. Patching a tank of that value like yours with a bandaid is not an option. Customer service should be number one priority with a new product. If they need to install new fans on their pumps for now on then at least everyone will know the problem of heat is no longer an issue and if something goes wrong in the future with their product everyone will know it will be taken care of. Thats how companys like Tunze and envision and others get their reputations of having integrity and honesty. This builds happy repeat customers.
After being in this hobby for 5 years I do a lot of reasearch on the message boards to get a lot of feedback on a product before I splash down hundreds for something. Hopefully this was only a isolated problem because I think those new powerheads are a great idea if the heat issues go away.

Thats my 2 cents for what its worth

Good luck
Jay

Hi Jay. Welcome to this thread! :D

Got any pics of your system?

Jay O Matic 12/08/2007 05:17 PM

I do. Lets see if I can make it work here.

Here we go....they should work now.

Jay

Jay O Matic 12/08/2007 05:33 PM

Heres a picture of my 55 gallon tank. I actually liked the colors of this tank better then my new bigger one. I think its just because I only had VHO for lights then. Now I have halide and VHO actinic.

Micki 12/08/2007 05:35 PM

Jay, what wattage halides are you using?

jnarowe 12/08/2007 05:42 PM

Both tanks look very nice Jay. The small one is a pretty sweet mixed reef. I have never been able to keep much in the way of LPS or softies due to the way my system is designed, but I do appreciate seeing tanks like yours. Too bad you are so far away!

Jay O Matic 12/08/2007 06:07 PM

Im in Vancouver now. I no longer have that 55 gallon. Ive moved both my 55s into that 120 walk around tank. Its 250 watt halides with 2 110 watt VHO bulbs just dont show the pretty colors like just VHO bulbs do. I think I will have 14k or 20k when its time to replace my bulbs. Im trying not to spend as much on my aquarium hobby anymore. I spent a lot when I got started in the hobby but Ive started flying glow powered airplanes and that eats some coin as well.
I miss the 55 gallon. It did look really nice when I took that series of pictures. But my 120 will as good in a couple years.

I think my profile still says Im in Moses Lake. I need to change that.

The 55 had 2 46.5 inch actinic whit URI bulbs and 2 46.5 watt super actinic URI 110 watt VHO

The 120 has 2 250 watt 10000k Ushio bulbs and 2 46.5 inch superactinic 110 watt VHO bulbs.

Jay

Micki 12/08/2007 07:09 PM

What K rating are they? I run 250 watt 14 K blueline bulbe and couldn't believe the difference! I also run 65 watt PC actinic lighting.

FishTruck 12/08/2007 07:11 PM

Hey Jon, how about a full tank shot for the new split! :D

re-ubscribing.

Also, sorry about your Vortech situation. Seems like they should have a temp sensor in the unit (or do they?). I think they are a great concept and I really liked running a single one on my 60 gallon cube. Of course, I only ran it at 30% capacity, on and off at 8 minute cycles with 3/8 inch acrylic... so no heat issues. Clearly, running them full bore on a BIG acrylic tank is a new ball game!

Ryan.

Jay, nice setup. You might want to try the Ushio 1400's. Very crisp white, w/ a hint of blue. The 10k's were a bit too yellow for my taste.
