Clam issues..Please help

Hi everyone im pretty new to the clam section, since i recently got a baby crocea :D

So my question was, can you look at my pictures and tell me if hes having problems? I think hes a little gaping and/or pinched, but what do i know . My params are as follows:

Nitrite & Nitrate:Unmeasurable (aka 0-5)
Ammonia:0
PH: 8.2
SG: 1.025
Temp:77-80

I have 23# of LR, AquaC Remora HOB skimmer, Magnum filter, 250w 14,000K Halides with 65w PC acitinics. And the clam sits on a buried tile, in the substrate.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Lol funny you made this a poll.

Yes your clam is retracted, and gapeing.

How did you acclimate it?

What tank mates does it have, fish and inverts?

What are your cal and alk? and how do you suppliment them?

Toygrr 01/01/2008 07:37 PM

Haha i thought that'd bring up a good laugh :P

Well i havn't bought a calc/alk test kit yet, ill do this asap tho, i just knew there was something wrong. I drip acclimated him for about 50 mins, slowly put water in the bag every few mins (not EXACTLY drip..) Theres a scooter blenny, clarkii clown, blue yellow tail damsel, brittle star, green torch coral, frogspawn, alveopora, and a hammer coral. I dont let any of them touch him, and i've never seen the fish pick on him since i got him a week ago. Though, the blenny did nip him the first day i got him, but hes left him alone since then. The first pic is about 4 days after i got him, the second i took about 3 hours ago.

I tried moving him a little up the rock to help with the bleaching. I noticed hes a tad bleached in the middle..

oh and i supplement them with 1 tsp total Kent Coral Vite. I feed him refrigerated Phyto Feast (Reef Nutrition), as well as the other corals.

skinz78 01/01/2008 08:01 PM

do you have any shrimp or crabs?

Toygrr 01/01/2008 08:02 PM

I had 2 sexy shrimp...but they disappeared :rolleye1: . Oh and i forgot the green-ish ricordia.

Toygrr 01/01/2008 08:05 PM

im being optimistic, so i yoted "Yes!" in my poll

nietzsche 01/01/2008 10:30 PM

if you can, try to at least pick up the alk test kit that API sells at your LFS for about 6.99 for the single-- thats what i go by. it does look stressed out though

does it look like this all day?

Toygrr 01/01/2008 10:50 PM

well only today...do you think its my alk? cuz i think calcium is fine, my other corals thrive.

ill go get it tomorrow, thanks!

nietzsche 01/02/2008 12:10 AM

watch the clam and see if it does this everyday

it could be the alk or just a sudden swing in the paramters. for the clams youre going to have to make sure alk, magnesium and alk are at proper levels. for now alk and calcium will be good but eventually youll have to get a magnesium kit in case youre having problems with calcium

Toygrr 01/02/2008 12:14 AM

umm ok, i think ill get all 3..

Im a little worried its a parasite, if it continues tomorrow ill go get RO/DI water and adjust it so i can dip him for a few mins. Ill test and if things are off ill have to chemicly adjust them T.T

Uhhg, these guys are as bad anemones...Thanks for your help so much man!

Toygrr 01/02/2008 12:15 AM

oh and do you think his center mantle looks a little bleached?

skinz78 01/02/2008 12:40 AM

It does look a little white.

Toygrr 01/02/2008 01:20 AM

:| i kno2, ill do what i can do. Thanks guys!

Toygrr 01/02/2008 01:24 AM

oh dont i need to move it up my rock? give him a little more light little by little? I thought thats how i un-bleach him.

mbbuna 01/02/2008 01:24 PM

dont dip the clam. get a Ca, Alk and Mg test kit first and find out where you stand.
