DIYing a vortech??

has any one tryed to do this? i wouldnt think it would be to hard. i mean just something without a controler, just on off? or is it a waste of time to even try??????

steven_dean17 11/27/2007 11:49 PM

Why would it be a waste of time? I would love to build one. I would be willing to bet everybody else would too.

NanoReefWanabe 11/27/2007 11:54 PM

Skepperz 11/29/2007 12:48 AM

Fully sick mate!! that is soooo cool!

Wrassemeister 11/29/2007 01:50 AM

thanks for that link... it would be nice if more people get in on diy'ing these because a lot of people want them but they are just too darn expensive. I have experience with rc cars/heli brushless motors and speed controllers... and neodymium magnets are easy to source, its just a matter of getting a good design down. It would be nice to see someone take apart a vortech and see how its designed.

GrandeGixxer 11/29/2007 02:10 AM

That is amazing. It is definatly a doable project. Get busy, post all the details. :D

krikor 11/29/2007 10:49 AM

omg... are there fish that like living in hurricanes? cause that would be perfect for them...

Anyone have a step by step for this? id love to do this... lol

It would be nice to see someone take apart a vortech and see how its designed.
just google vortec manual and look at the pdf. i did that last week to see how it was put together.

:eek2: That's awesome! Look like I just found my new DIY project.

Was it just me, or did that guy make it almost completely made out of metal, can those parts be substituted with plastic?

Also, how did he keep the bolt in place?

I am seriously thinking about doing this.

customcolor 12/01/2007 10:55 PM

useing the metal is just to see if was doable. i read all the post on nano-reef and he is starting to make it out of pvc and is working his way up to ceramic bearings and stuff so there will be no metal on the inside of the tank.

jnarowe 12/01/2007 11:27 PM

I have taken apart a Vortech and although there is some sensor circuitry, it is fairly simple in design.

Good neoprene padding and a better test tank would remove most of the noise. The big deal to me would be to build these usable on 1"+ thick tanks. Where's Giovanni when you need him??

apayne 12/13/2007 01:48 PM

Has any one else tried this??

dogstar74 12/13/2007 06:20 PM

I threw this together, but I haven't built it yet.

jnarowe

"I have taken apart a Vortech"

Can you tell us what brand & model of motor they are using?

Stu

jnarowe 12/13/2007 08:48 PM

Good question Stu...there were NO markings on the one I pulled apart. I am sure someone with EE experience could tell you. Maybe Giovanni knows?

Landolakes 12/13/2007 09:57 PM

that thing looks like it will make a great smoothie.

flyguy7150 01/12/2008 04:02 AM
