admin & mods

Is there an area on RC that has the rules and regs?? I have seen where several people have been banned for making posts on another site. they were derogitory (sp?) comments about RC. And then they were banned. Seems like someone is a little touchy. I just don't understand...as big as RC is why would "they" care if someone gets mad and vents a little?? Except to flex a little mod/admin muscle. Is it in the rules/regulations or by-laws of the site that as a user you cannot disagree or say anything derogitory against this site? Anywhere? It just seems a little harsh. Maybe there was more to it than meets the eye. Just looking for a little insight, not trying to offend mods or admin. I understand with sooo many members you must run a tight ship so to speak but banning for comments made on another site seems a little much. Just would like to know where we as members of this site stand.

Thanks,
concerned and confused
POSTING IS A PRIVILEGE. Please note that you are a guest on a privately-owned site. Posting here is a privilege that we hope you will enjoy and respect. All members are to have only one user name and are to post under that name exclusively. The moderators can, and will, remove the posting privileges of any person who does not wish to follow the rules, or in the opinion of the moderators is a detriment to the site.
People who express themselves (wherever) that their intent is to "take the site down" or brag about the trouble they have caused or the trouble they intend to cause fall easily under the category of "detriment to the site."

We have neither the time nor the desire to deal with people who state that they don't like our rules, won't follow our rules or will only follow them so that they can cause problems further down the line.

Keep in mind, what you may read elsewhere is generally not the first "run-in" we've had with these folks. This isn't a "first-timer" type issue.

It's a big World Wide Web, there is certainly somewhere else where these people can be happy, while not making us unhappy here. Win-win.

I was wondering if somebody gets banned is there anyway to get reinstated?

Thanks

Of course. It's all in their behavior behind the scenes. Emails, etc. Most banned people come back and there's never another problem. Depending on the whole circumstance some are only banned a day, some longer. Some are not welcome back. There's always more than one side of the story, and it really does no good to rehash it in public, that's one reason we don't discuss it.

This depends on what the ban was given for and is different in each case. We don't like to close the book on anyone and will always work with someone who has a sincere desire to come back and play by the rules.

Contacting a moderator (nanook@reefcentral.com) or the webmaster is the way to start communications.

One other comment. In the vast majority of the cases, we only hear about comments made on other sites when a link is forwarded to us by a concerned member. Quite often these links contain threats of physcial violence ("RC MOD is going to be surprised when I show up at his door with three of my buddies"). In this world, these type comments have to be taken seriously and the individuals dealt with accordingly.

That borders on being detrimental to the site too!

you have to place a gazillion dollars in small bills, (non sequential serial numbers) under the closest bridge that still has a troll living under there.
they keep a troll on retainer for when such issues arise
the re-instatement process begins as soon as the ransom (re-instatement fee) is divided amongst the crew ;)

thats how I got back in...
(I paid in monopoly money, they never noticed....shhh don't tell!!)

ATB USA 12/07/2007 09:37 PM

How much is a gazillion?

andycook 12/07/2007 10:08 PM

a million
a billion
a trillion
a quadrillion
a bazillion
a brontazillion

Is there anything to keep moved on people from just registering again under a new name? I've seen people get banned, and are back posting in a couple days under a new name doing the same thing that got them banned in the first place. They eventually get banned again, but that take a very long time. Its easy to register under a new email and a different IP address, so I'm sure its not easy to police this.

A never ending barrel of laughs sometimes. ;)

IPs and emails have nothing to do with it - their personalities are what give them away. They'll tell you (or anyone who will listen) how the first banning was a mistake, or the moderator just didn't like them, or they didn't understand the rules, whatever. But amazingly enough, they return and are banned again, generally for being the same jerk they were the first time.

You can't fix stupid.

just out of curiousity how do you know who these people are from other sites? I have had the same screen name on every site I have been to, then when I came here I had to add a 2 on the end of my screenname. so apparently someone else already is using the same screen name I use on other boards. So whats to keep me from being banned for someone elses comments on another board with my screen name? And I know this is getting quite petty, but still curious? thanks mods and admin for you time here

Yeah, the main thing that keeps us all sane and out of trouble with the mod-gods is sensa-humor and patience. Keep a sense of humor and take a step back when an obvious crazy is performing obvious craziness---don't pile on or lose your cool.

I want the Short Line Railroad!

ironman2 12/10/2007 12:11 AM

I think the mods should Start a game of hang man, each member has a spot on there displayed profile. every time a member gets out of line add a body part to the hang man, when they screw up to much and all the body is there they get banned! HEHE! then we can all see who is being a nuisance. It would definatly give yall a sense of humor! HEHE. thanks again guys

dc 12/10/2007 05:47 AM

LOL, we have a great sense of humor! Honestly, we are more than willing to go out of our way to keep people from getting banned, but they have to meet us halfway.

mhurley 12/10/2007 09:08 AM

It's Monday and I have no coffee yet, therefore, I'm putting all of you on Double-Secret Probation.
You should be afraid.
Very, very afraid.
