PVC Plugs for propigation
 

Does anyone know where these can be found in MASS quantities?

you and me both man, I know there's some legitimate pvc use for these, and that they're cheap like woah from some manufacturer or another, but I'm totally not paying the online "frag plug" prices for those, they're astronomical!

does any plumber know of where these come from?

A little off topic, but these guys sell frag plugs made out of aragonite.

I've used argonite plugs many times in the past. Although they work, they don't look right once the sps starts encrusting. I switched to sprinkler head strainers years ago personally. These plastic/pvc plugs would look more natural when they encrust, plus, it looks like you can basically use them like as a plug-and-play system. Epoxy the base to your rock and just plug in the coral. The coral doesn't get burnt from epoxy and you can move it to another spot anytime you want if needed.

the problem is, these guys are getting them for pennies on the dollar, which is why I'd much rather buy them from someone that isn't associated in the slightest with reefkeeping, especially if I need like, 1000+ at a minimum...

Yup, I have the exact same mindset. Why would I pay someone $.35 per for 5000 of these per year ($1750), when I know they're getting them from somewhere @ $50 per 1000 count.

Asking one of these "sellers" results in a "none of your business" response.

So the question remains, what are they originally ment for, and who makes them?

I agree about the cost. I make my own agrocrete plugs but would love to get my hands on a couple thousand of those to try.

I have a buddy that sells pvc parts wholesale, I will ask him about them.

I personally like drywall anchors. the ends can be cut to size, can be wedged into cracks and are very cheap

exactly! I find that with the prices that they're probably getting, it's nearly insulting to be charged even half of what their wholesale costs are, what I really, really look forward to is finding this product online, and redirecting everyone there to get it cheaply

what I keep coming back to in my head is that they both look amazingly distinctly like shower curtain rod end caps...

I have it from a reliable source that E.Boerner's first pic are custom injection molded for coral propagation.

besides, the plug costs are next to nil once you have a $20-50 frag encrusted on there.

I contacted US plastics and they do not offer any product like that. I think that I will get 50 of them and see if that will help me in the hunt. Sharkdude I don't belive that they are as on the one site the person offering them found a great new thing to use as a frag plug. This is so complicated!

unless you're buying 1000-5000 of them, then the costs get a little... extravagant...
