Air Stones

I was talking to this guy that worked at the nearby pet store. Im setting up my 55 gallon saltwater in my appartment. Im not really sure i want to go all live rock in the tank...even though thats the standard. but perhaps a mixture of live rock and decor. The guy that the store told me not to put any airstones in the tank or anything that makes bubbles. Can anyone tell me why?

With all the circulation you should have in the tank it keeps it oxygenated enough and with saltwater airstones will cause a crap load of of saltcreep. Also some corals will get air traped in their bodies and that can hurt them. Main reason is the saltcreep

There are many reasons why we dont use airstone or any air-rating devices. To add to what was already said, most people tend to have trouble with too much air in their tanks (like me); issues like microbubbles can effect your fish, corals and skimming as well as how your pumps perform.

Take our advice, forget the airstone and worry about too much air and not enough.

happy reefin'
