Christmas Tree
Hi,
Would like to have some info on Christmas trees? Are they easy to keep? Photosynthetic? Light Preferences? Need for feeding and what to feed? Most important is it best glued to a rock or just put in the sand? |
Most of the ones I've seen were on the rocks.
|
I'm assuming you mean christmas tree worms.
Here's some info. http://marinebio.org/species.asp?id=543 From what I've seen, you'll need to either feed heavily (don't recommend) or dose phytoplankton regularly so they can feed off it. They usually come on a porites coral. |
finally got some time to take pictures of the Chritmas tree I got. it's different from the onesn that link. Tanks for any firther info. Especially about flow feeding and lighting requirements.

According to Sprung, it needs medium to high flow, and although it's brown, it doesn't have zooxanthellae. So that means regular feeding with phyto- or zooplankton. And it needs to be in the sand, not on a rock. Good luck! -R |
Thanks for the info Lancer.
Any specific need for it to be in the sand? as I already fixed it on a rock? do you think I should take it off and put it in the sand? |
Not a Chritmas tree worm.
Is it soft or hard? Looks more like a dying Acropora. |
it is soft and opens and closes frequently. when it closes it becomes really small and near rounded shape.
|
I checked a couple of other books, and they all say it lives in the sand...but if it's already attached to the rock, I would leave it there.
Fossa & Nilsen say it requires frequent feedings (twice a day) and is "difficult to keep." :( HTH, -R |
Thanks for your help will try to keep it fed as much as I can and hope for the best.
