This is xenia.... right?

I had this hitch hike on a candycane from fosters and smith about 1 1/2 years ago...

It was 1 single polyp. I assumed it was xenia from the pulsing and the way it looks.

Well... I see everyone complaining about the way it spreads, and pictures of tiny stalks that are for sale....

This bugger never split, dropped babys, nothing.

Its at the very top of my tank blazing under 2 250 watt mh's....

Just wanted a lil reassurance its what I thought it is lol

oh... its about the size of both my fists put together!!

it has one huge stalk like a leather which is weird, yet it has hands like anthelia...

TOURKID 08/03/2007 01:43 PM

yep. the stalk is HUGE. and it doesent split off either....

if you look at the underside of a pop can its about as big as the inside part. lol

if i turn the pumps off it pulses like crazy...

Its so close to the light if i take 8 gallons out it touches air......

oh.. and it hitchhiked from a 'divers den' candycane so it was strait from the ocean....

Looks like some of the Giant Ball Xenia that they have on GARF. It's nice that you have a different variety of it. If you're willing to, you could easily make frags of it by tearing som stalks off and rubberbanding them to liverock.

just the stocks or part of the foot too?

I already 'transplanted' it once when it took away all the light for the candycanes

Rubberbands dident work so good for me. i ended up sticking a tookpick thru the foot.. that was at least 10 months ago..

Some stalk would probably be enough, so long as when you rubberband it, it stays rubberbanded and can attach to the rock. It will grow a new foot eventually. There are a million ways to frag Xenia though. It generally grows fast, but can be sensitive to changes in water conditions, and completely die off all of the sudden.

Here's another good method: http://garf.org/MPegs/XeniaPropagation.html

Anyone know if that is more heteroxenia than just xenia?
