|

wheres u get the ponys? |
Beautiful tank!! What's the name of the gorgonian in the bottom farthest right of the tank?
|
beautiful
i second the algae question-- and how big is that tank its absolutely stunning |
Kuda,
I've never had an algae problem. When my tank was around 2 months old, I was worried that I was doing something wrong because my tank never went through any type of algae bloom. But I decided to quit worrying and count it as a blessing or deal with it when it happens. I’m beginning to have some red slime algae in my sump. I do a 15gal. weekly water change and I have a mixture of 35 to 40 snails. I use to have blue-legged crabs but I decided to get ride if them before my Seahorses arrived. MathU I got my ponies from a breeder in California that I found on the Syngnathid.org board. I think mine are his last shipment because he's selling off his remaining stock to a LFS. Not enough business through Internet sales. He's been wonderful. When I first contacted him, he ask about me and my set up to make sure that I was prepared to take care of Seahorses. Urbanrat84 The gorgonian on the bottom right of my tank is a Candelbra. I received as a freebee with the live rock I purchased from Tampa Bay Saltwater. I’ve had it for 6 months and it’s done great. |
Now guys,,,, don't tell me that I should have an algae problem because I start worrying that I don't. LOL
It's 55 gal. |
Nice horse tank, how long have you had the orange spongers I haven't had much luck with them.
|
Worrying about your lack of algae is the last thing you should do! Thanks for the id on the gorg, I've seen that sp. in a few people's tanks on RC and haven't had any success finding anything like it here in Australia, I don't think we have it here. The thick branching is beautiful!
|
Great pictures!
|
Thanks everyone for the compliments.
The tall orange finger sponge and the orange tree sponge, both in the middle area of the tank, were freebies that arrived with the live rock 6 months ago. |

The Candelbra gorgonian came from a supplier that gets them from the Atlantic Ocean, somewhere off the coast of Florida. So,, you might not be able to get them on your side of the world. |
I call that type of gorgonian (as does the floridian supplier) a Frilly Gorgonian or Frilly Sea Fan.
|
Sorry if I got the name of the gorgonian wrong. I got the name by looking at the gorgonians for sale on Tampa Bay Saltwater's web site. I thought the picture of the Candelbra looked like the one that Richard gave me. I didn't see anything called a Frilly Gorgonian but that's a good description of it. A Marine Biologist sure knows a lot more than me. Thank for the clarification.

hehehe scubastorey your crazy! im just like anyone else...all i know is a collection company in florida)sells them and calls them frilly gorgonians. You dont have to kiss my *** just cause i have a degree dude.
|
oh...i just googled it. Easy enough answer: scientific name i believe is Pseudopterogorgia bipinnnata, the Purple Frilly Gorgonian
|
nice tank btw :)
|
First,,, I'm not a dude. LOL.
The one I'm talking about is not purple,, so maybe we're talking about a different gorgonian. I have 8 gorgonian, so that's entirely possible. I'm not kissing your ***. I highly respect people who have studied the Ocean. It's my favorite place. I would live there if I could grow gills. Thanks for the "nice tank" comment, it truly means more to me coming from someone with your degree. And I'm not crazy,,, at least most of the time. Trudy |
hehe i call everyone dude. Chicks too ;)
