leather abandons rock

Hi, Our yellow leather has been slowly sliding to one side of the rock it was on when we bought it. This afternoon I saw a small chunk of the leather about two inches away and then just now I noticed that the leather has totally abandoned the rock it was on and is sitting in a crevice about 5 inches down the reef....Should I just leave it where it landed?...Regarding the one chunk....do they do that themselves or do you think something tore it off? The fish in the tank have all been in it two years or more and I haven't ever seen them tearing at coral before. There is a thin layer left on the original rock...will this become another leather?
Thanks for your input in advance.

Mine do that as well, not sure if its just something they do or if they're unhappy with something. They're growing, color is good, polyp extension is good, so I dont know why. There is a good chance that the remaining piece will form a new one. If it seems happy where it landed and you're okay with it then I would leave it. In time it will attach itself.

Thanks David.. Yeah I figured I'd just leave it and see if it seems happy in its new place. Its got some red shrooms nearby tho so we'll just have to see.
