What Happened To Frank?

I just Noticed that Frank M. No longer is a mod here?

papagimp 06/29/2007 12:43 PM

Think he's moved on to a different forum if memory services correct.

klondar 06/29/2007 12:59 PM

But I don't remember seeing an announcement, What forum?

Baalz 06/29/2007 01:25 PM

Maybe you should take your question to the
"Feedback and Questions" forum.
There has been to much negativity forced upon this forum as of late. Which takes away from the purpose it was created.

billsreef 06/29/2007 01:32 PM

While we greatly appreciate Franks former service to this forum, he has not had the time to actively moderate and run the forum. To leave the forum with it's essential moderator less status quo is not doing our members any favors. As a result the decision was made to make some moderator changes. This has brought not one, but two moderators with breeding experience to step to the plate.

BrianD 06/29/2007 01:42 PM

klondar, you were very aware that Frank was no longer a moderator here when you posted this thread. You also apparently have made comments that you wish to be removed from this community. Is there a reason for this level of immaturity?

BrianD 06/29/2007 05:30 PM

Billsreef (and Nagel), thank you for volunteering to take over this forum and giving the largest reefing community in the world the benefit of your years of expertise and first-hand experience. Personally, I am proud that Reef Central continues to be the #1 source of reefing information on the internet, and I am just as proud that members of our community from every experience level can participate and benefit from your guidance. Today's newbie is tomorrow's expert :)

As tomorrow's expert,...er, a breeding noob, :) is there a forum or website that you would recommend to read up on the background of Bill/billsreef and Nagel as far as their breeding experience and areas of specific interest? What I know of Frank Marini, those are some big shoes to fill. I'm really inquiring because some posters tout their high post count as "experience" to the detriment of those seeking advice. Maybe someone coming late to the game, with say 30 or so posts, gets a bit cautious. Nevertheless, great forum for learning what is, and isn't, possible. Thanks in advance. :);) :p

I know Frank will be missed as he was the "godfather" of this forum and Bangaii breeding. You can still glean information from his insight by using the search function in this forum or if it is down you can search the forum using google.

Ed Ricketts 10/28/2007 07:50 PM

Um, ok, good enough...;)

billsreef 10/29/2007 06:53 AM

Ed,

I'm a professional aquaculturist currently running a university wet lab, breeding marine fish for research. I've also bred the usual assortment of marine ornamentals ;)

Ed Ricketts 10/29/2007 04:21 PM

Bill(sreef):

So you've found the dream job!:D No I guess there's always "work" involved when you go to work, but it sounds like a great opportunity to merge the hobby with your "day job." Does your lab have a website with a focus or prospectus? I can imagine with your accomplishments already, and the 40+ hours/week you get to spend "immersed" in this field, you have, as we say, forgotten more marine breeding than I'll ever know. So whattaya know about breeding lysmata sp.? Not that candy cane lil bugger Lysmata wurdemanni, or evil wanna be Rhynchocienetes uritai, but something great, like L.debelius?

Most certainly it's been covered ad nauseum elsewhere, and I know PM to you specifically would be fruitful. But I'm a noob, and I guess that makes me bashful. So I don't send PMs to mods. Maybe it is worth a search on that testy little search function on RC, or that new fangled intranet, or it needs to be it's own thread. In which case I'll ask stupid questions (After 30 years, I'm learning there ARE stupid questions) get flamed for being too ambitious, noobish, or too unrealistic. But you gotta, wanna, at least alittle, relieve the collection pressure on "that shrimp"...
Ed

billsreef 11/01/2007 09:34 PM

Never hesitate to PM, even us Mods are generally friendly ;) Also don't worry about stupid questions in here. Most folks in this forum will set you straight in a friendly fashion. Anyone doing serious flaming will usually find themselves on the wrong side of the ban button :D

BTW the plus side of a 40 hour week usually happens around midnight or later when some pump or heater malfunctions and I get that emergency call from the monitoring system :eek2:

As for shrimp, Louis has a thread in this forum on his attempts at wurdmanni. The most up to date and informative info on Lysmata I know of. debelius would certainly be interesting, but I'm afraid I'm short on personal time to tackle that sort of undertaking. Last shrimp I've tried myself was Stenopus hispidus several years back, though not with any more success than anyone else at that time. Like the Lysmata, just too many finicky larval stages and problems with final settlement.

BTW in my photo gallery are a few shots of my lab.
