How often do you clean them?
Hi Guys:
I just wanted to know how often you clean the aquarium glasses.. I am thinking that my values are very low, but I need to clean them every 3 days. If not, in the day 4, I couldn't see inside. I am not talking about the coralline algae, I mean this green algae that grows just over the glass or acrilic. What do you think? |
Thanks for your votes, who else?
|
Those people that voted "every week" what kind of ilumination have? Fluorescent? or Metal Halide?
|
I think your microalgae is being caused by high phosphate levels. Do you test for Po4 ?

Yeah, maybe you are right. |
I clean the glass every 3 days or so, but what I clean is only a few small spots the size of a quarter of brown algae that is pretty transparent. If you cant see through the glass after 3 days, you have some other serious isssues going on. I ordered the Tampa Bay Saltwater "package" with the cleanup crew of cucumbers, shrimp, snails, hemits, and stars and have had no issues with algae growth. I would check some of the other posts on wha to do for routine maintenance also.

I am thinking that my problems comes from phosphates, because my nitrates are very low, indetectable. I am using Tropic Marine Pro Reef salt. I have heard in other forums that this salt comes with phosphates. I dont have the kit, but I am going to buy it, to know what is happening. |
I use Instant Ocean which is what is most readily available here in at least 4 stores. Seems to work fine for me, although I do have a higer than ideal phoshate reading. I use the Kents phoshate sponge media every so often to knock it down. I'm even using RO/DI water so i think its leaching from the rocks.

leaching from the rocks? could you explain that to me? maybe it is my problem.
|
I bought farm raised live rock from Tampa Bay Saltwater which is rock mined from land in Bahamas that was once an ancient coral reef. Some people claim you get some limestone rock in there sometimes that can dissolve and raise the phospate levels. Is that exactly wahts happening??? Who knows. Just a theory.

well, let me see what happens swithing the salt.
|
I clean every 3 days to a week, but I have a very low tolerance for even a slight haze...
|
neither do I
