I was wondering is it true that you can only feed baby sea horses newly hatched brine shrimp the first 24 hours. after that shrimp get a shell and you can't feed them to the baby sea horses anymore? Thank you...

I'm not sure about a shell, but after the yolk is absorbed they brine lose most if not all of their nutritional value.

I use a brine food to help, I start feeding the babies 24 hours after hatching, but I also hatch new shrimp every other day.

From what I've read after the first 24 hours they lose their yolk sack and become considerably less nutritious. After that they need to be gut loaded with some supplements like selcon or some other nutrient/vitamins

The reason for the first 24 hours is nutrition and depending on the species, they may be too large to eat after 24 hrs.

They can expend half of their nutritional value just breaking out of the shell when they hatch ... thats why decapping the brine shrimp cysts is important. Its less effort for them to hatch, retaining more of the yolk sac for the seahorse fry. I consider a bbs over 6 hours old to be almost void of nutrition.

When raising fry, I maintain 5 bbs cultures, feeding out every 4-6 hours, then start a new culture in the hatcher I just fed from.
