New Frag Tank from Keith Grandt

Just thought I'd show off a little bit of Keith's work. Now that I've sold off some other equipment, my wife let me have my new frag tank. I will be tearing down my current 60g to sell off before the move, and storing everything in my frag system, which will eventually be tied into my 250g after the move.

The frag tank is glass with polished edges, 48"Lx24"Dx12"T with a built in overflow on the one corner. A few Lumenarc courtesy of Petes97, ballasts from Maxdout and gabe3d, sump and stand from Rafael13, and here it is:

Here with frag rack:

Keith does great work. This thing is built like a tank(no pun intended) (of the Sherman variety) and is a nice guy to work with. I encourage everyone to look him up when you need glass or acrylic work done.

That's a nice looking frag tank. The rimless look is always nice.

Is it just me or the light on the right side is bluer?

kdblove_99 01/03/2008 02:58 PM

That is a very nice tank, Congrats

I like...I will be talking to Keith soon ;) I just need to hear back on a few things in the works

Wow, Jeremy that is a beautiful setup. It's nice to know that we have someone local who can do such good work.

Yes it is. The light on the left is a Hamilton 14k and the right is an XM 20k. I also have the 40g breeder set up on the workbench to the right with an XM 10k that is tied into this system via the sump below, and, well, when setting up all 3 lights I had to use what was on hand until I get some more bulbs. I've been trying to decide on which bulbs to use, 10k, 14k, or 20k. I decided on the 20k's for my main system, but have'nt bought enough bulbs yet.

Thanks for the compliments. Keith does great work. I wanted the frag tank to have an unobstructed surface, so we went rimless, with 3/8" glass and bracing at the bottom and slim bracing along the side vertical edges that is not noticable.

A good question would be what are you all doing on RC during the middle of the day? I know I should be working, but things are slow at the moment. Anyone need some good financial planning? I've got the time if you've got the $$!!!

petes97 01/03/2008 03:44 PM

If you were a TRUE financial adviser, you would be telling people how to make a small fortune in the aquarium hobby...

Start with a big one! :D

schrun209 01/03/2008 03:49 PM

NICE FRAG TANK!!!

LOL! Hence the 250g that I've got that had to be put on hold. Start big, spend early, and sell often once things start growing to recoup your costs. That's the general idea anyhow.

kevin95695 01/03/2008 03:56 PM

If it's not going to be a 'show' tank... I'd run 10k's when you can for growth.

xia 01/03/2008 03:59 PM

Can I ask how much it cost you? Been wanting to get a custom cube.

I hope we are not getting a bill for this :D

the tank looks great

BBCoach4 01/03/2008 05:18 PM

Very Nice!!

jtarmitage 01/03/2008 05:38 PM

Actually, the I mispoke, the tank is 1/2". As for the price, with 1/2", built in overflow, polished edges, Keith is asking $500. He cut me a deal and with other items for trade, I got it for a little less, and it was well worth it.

Been thinking about that a bit. Here's the dilema(s):

1- corals under 10k vs. 20k develop different colorations. This was very obvious after a very short time in my main tank, and I'm not just talking about the instant shift in irridessence due solely to the light. And I won't be running the VHO actinics like I was on my main tank.

2- 10k vs. 20k put off different levels of PAR and I don't want to shock the corals when they get put into my 250g when that finally happens

Not sure what is best, or if it really will make too much of a difference. Any opinions?

And, even if it is only a frag tank, it's still a show tank!!!

bored4long 01/03/2008 05:46 PM

hey, what is Keith's RC name? I want to get a quote on a cube. Thanks!

jtarmitage 01/03/2008 05:50 PM

You know what, I'm not even sure:lol: I know he is on here.

If you want his email or phone #, send me a PM as I don't want to post it without his approval.

kevin95695 01/03/2008 06:52 PM

When the 10k halides shut down at 6:30pm nightly it is SHOWTIME! I love the looks under the PC actinics, but I'm confident the growth is from the 10k during the early part of the day.

looks great jeremy! keith does some awesome work :D.

scubajim 01/03/2008 07:09 PM

keith is gotfin on rc. That is an awesome tank by the way. I wish i knew he made tanks before i got mine.

jeffmperez 01/03/2008 08:37 PM

Funny! - Keith was at my house today measuring for a canopy that I am putting on my tank.
:D

Not only does he build tanks he is also skilled at complete set-ups. He does do great work and is a very nice guy! All that with reasonable pricing to boot.

After he measured my canopy, I showed him my plans for my next tank between my Dining Room and Great Room. He did a great job of getting me all psyched about the "future" 200+ gallon in-wall set-up. Which I surely will be calling him when I am ready....that is when the wife and pocket book allow!

Thanks Again Keith!

kdblove_99 01/03/2008 09:15 PM

I might have to get a hold of him also. I would love to change my 60 Acrylic cube to a glass Starphire.

Is that regular glass Jeremy?
