My 75G tank thread

Hi all,

I started in keeping salt water fish since around 6 months ago, as that's when my girlfriend bought me my 20Gallon tank for my newly purchased condo. Time has passed, and spent tons of time reading and learning from here, I think I am ready to start a bigger system. One purpose is to keep more fishes, another is to start keeping corals as well. Coming from a very simple FOWLR system, this is a huge step up.

I am starting this thread to keep track and share the progress of the 75 Gallon that I am building. Before I start, I want to give special thanks to a member here "sokin". He has gave me many many, and MANY great advices and suggestions. I probably would still be sitting here all confused without him. Thanks Chris!

I am open to suggestions and opinions as to how I am improve the system, since I am still a newbie obviously.

I bought these used for a very good deal, came with 8 bulbs, with 6 of them being used for 3 months (2x 12,000k, 3x super actinic, 2x super actinic plus, and 1x 10,000k). I have ordered the mount, but it's not here yet. I am glad that I went for T5HO but not MH, for the heat issue - as the heat from T5 would be the max that I would tolerate in my living room.

Man you are starting that 75 out with the right stuff! Nice lighting! Good luck. It sounds like you have done some research and know what you're doing! Awesome!

Capt_Cully 01/09/2008 05:31 PM

I like where you're headed. 75's are a great size to start with!!

Have you considered painting the back so you don't see the equipment??? It's not a bad way to go. On the flip side, my friend has a 125 with no paint on back and it makes the tank look HUGE!

Either way, I'd say you're off to an awesome start!

Best of luck, Keep the pics coming.

sokin - thank you again!

steri - Thanks! I've done alot of readings, but I feel like it's never enough. I am going to take things very very slowly to make sure I am not making any mistakes!

I actually have a black background that I haven't put on (it's actually reversible so it can be blue/black), but I will do that. The 20G I will use it as a quantine tank and therefore will leave it as is :)

I will keep the pics coming whenever I have them available!

At the mean time, any advices are welcome.

Oh, uh, duh, I guess I scrolled thru the pics a little quickly there. That is your 20. My bad.
