Re: Anyone do a Recirc Mod on a SP4 = GEN-X 4100

I'm looking to do this mod this weekend on my RS180 and just wanted to see if others have done it and how they liked it, etc...

I know the RC180's come with the Eheim pump, I'm assuming because it's queiter, etc... But any help I could get would be appreciate. I don't really want to spend $260 on the Eheim if it's not necessary...

Thanks!
Trust me on this one - unless you remote the skimmer or soundproof your sump - it is worth it.

The Gen X is one NOISY pump!

Does anyone know of Recirc mod for a CS 6-2+ ?

Voyager1000 07/18/2007 08:03 PM

Can someone review the recirculation mod for the RS180?
or recomend a substitute pump for the Gen-X 4100?
I've partially enclosed the back of the stand which helped a bit with sound bouncing back from the wall, and I've stuffed rubber "anti-fatigue" matting around the pump, which helped a bit more. WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) is now 4.0 of 10

jimdogg187 07/18/2007 08:25 PM

If you wanna get that WAF up to 10, you're gonna have to break down and get the eheim. Had the "F"AF going on with my finace. She'd always complain when we had guests over..... I didn't think it was bad, but she did i guess.....

As for the RC mod, hopefully someone will post their pics.... it doesn't look that complicated though....

Where do you purchase the uniseals?

markandkristen 07/18/2007 09:54 PM

http://www.4coral.com/Dry_Goods/pumps_&_filters.htm

this is where i bought them pet doc

markandkristen 07/18/2007 09:58 PM

petedoc

if you have the 6-2 then this mod should help you as well
i think you have the sedra 5000 as well. ..

you will only need to buy 2 uniseals then. 1 1/4" whole saw.

measure three times and cut once. if you connect the venturi like i did to the skimmer then you can measure where the outlet of the pump fits on the skimmer

you cant stick you hand down the middle of your skimmer unless you use your kids hands to put any fitting inside the skimmer

just use the straight pipe and you should be fine thats what h&s does anyways

If you call i pretty sure its cheaper if you are upgradeing

i did not have two pay that much

petedoc 07/18/2007 10:27 PM

Mark, I looked at your mod and it looks do-able. What size are the uniseals? The pump is a new sedra 5000, the old one bit the dust. Thanks for the advice! My hope is for a quiet recirc skimmer.

markandkristen 07/18/2007 11:46 PM

3/4 inch for uniseals
i went to the sprinkler section at lowes and found screw in black nipples for pumping water in for like 58cents

if you do the mod the way i did as far as the volute you can use the existing hole in your skimmer.

it puts the pump a little higher then the way euro does thier rc135 ... but if you look at h&s skimmers thier pumps are mounted a little higher than deltec . i never had any problems.

if you want to use elbows inside the skimmer its probably not going to happen unless you have smart little children . my 8 year old daughter was able to reach the fitting ... thats the only draw back to euro reef verses asm with asm you can tak the neck off :)

huskerreef 07/19/2007 02:54 PM

anyyone with experience on a rc1000? thinking about upgrading my asm g6 for my 1240 gallons, now that i have added more fish i am getting algae issues and think it may be from my asm under skimming the system.

scotmc 07/19/2007 05:55 PM

I just reveived my 135. I am having a problem connecting the pump to the body. I have the outlet elbow. I assume the pump to body coupling is the black thing. I have no idea how to install it. called UR. nobody home

Has anyone ever tried to mod either an eheim 1250 or similar sized aquabee pump for use on an RS80. I'm tied of the noise and vibration produced by my sedra 3500.

jcr6479 07/20/2007 08:23 AM

What would happen if I slapped this pump on (Aquabee 2000)?

I have a CS8-2 and have been trying to figure out the same thing on where to dial it in

There is so many darn bubbles in that chamber and I can't tell where everything is in that neck, LOL

markandkristen 07/20/2007 11:10 AM

i am not thier tech but have run 4 different euro reefs. if you have the gate valve its even easier.

i think the best way is to start with the gate valve open or the stand pipe pushed all the way down. once the inside has slimed up real good can take up to a week or so . i run mine about 1/2" to 1" above the bottom of the skimmer cup. but if its not broke in then your going to over flow the cup real easy. usually about 1 1/2" from where it overflows into the cup
