missing siphon?

i just bought a crocea, its been in my tank for a few hours now. its all brown with a blue rim, i noticed that the siphon tube was missing, most likely damaged from something, can this effect the clam by much or will it just grow back? also are the colors normal? the clams seems healthy, it retracts when i swing my hand over the lights.

Can you post a top down pic of the clam? It sounds like it will be ok but without pic's its hard to tell.

it sounds more like a derasa but a pic will tell the story.

was the siphon there when you bought the clam?? if so what fish / inverts do you have?

It should grow back. I had a lawnmower blenny that ate the exhalent siphons off all my clams. Now that he is gone, they are slowly, but surely growing back. Its actually kinda neat, because the clam tissue is snow white, and you can watch (over time) the tissue colonize with zooxanthellae and then get coloring from the other pigmenting.

i will try to get a pic, but for live stock all i have are 5 dwarf hermits and two false percs. i think it was damaged at the lfs or the wholesaler they bought it from.

its a crocea for sure. Looks to be happy, good colors too. Sometimes I hold my camera in one hand and a piece of cardboard in the other over the top of the cam. To sort of create a shadow and reduce the glare from the light on the water surface. It makes the pictures come out a little clearer. Maybe get a shot from the side, that may be better to tell whats going on.

You can do like i do also and shut the surface water movement off and lay a piece of acrylic on the water for a really clear shot.
