Bristle Worm... Good.

Just a quick search on google shows some good and some bad reviews.. Just wondering the bad points before I throw him back in.

Hermodice carunculata maybe?

Found this quote on another bristle worm post.
"Have any snails or clams been mysterious dying lately?"

In the last month I lost 2 smaller clams. Also some snail shell laying around. 3 other clams seem to be PO'd all the time lately.

Any corolation?

bristleworm - one of many varieties of polycheate worms, nearly all of which are harmless detrivores. the few harmful types are quite rare in the hobby. the bad press is usually misinformation - guilt by association when they eat dead and dying tissue on a coral and get blamed for coral's death. they detect the die back long before we're aware of it. its what they do. very helpful members of your clean up crew. people pay good $$ for them

It's a harmless fireworm. It's not Hermodice, nor does it have anything to do with the loss of your clams. The only drawbacks are that it's ugly and the spines will irritate you if you touch them.

not to jack the thread but i have tons of those type worms in my tank too, but towards the middle of each of them they have a "reflective" or "fluorescent" blue green grey tint to them. are they harmful?
