50mm reversed.

What macro reproduction or however you say it, does a Nikon 50mm reversed on another 50mm give you?
thanks

And does anybody have any shots using them?
thanks

50mm reversed on 100mm to give 2x's magnification.

Essentially the magnification of reverse stacking a lens like this is focal length of the prime divided by the focal length of the reversed lens. So mounting two 50mm back to back like that would give a 1:1, something you'd probably better achieve with an extension tube.

OK cool. Thanks for the help.

You could still reverse the 50 mm over set of extension tubes.Kenko is a cheap on, costs only around 100 usd for a set of 3 extension tubes:12-20-and 36mm It still gives you Autofocus and metering if you use the lens non reversed.
You can achieve much better magnification ratios with your 50 mm reversed over 68mm of extension tubes. will post some pics I took with this setup as soon as I process them.

I bought some tubes on eBay... it was under $10.

They however DO NOT have electrical connections.

So, I have to set my aperture with whatever lens (I tend to use my 1.8 50mm), pull it off of the camera body and then attach my extension tubes.

Once the DOF is set I now have to focus manually by moving the camera backwards and forwards.

It's a pain, but I can get some great shots with high magnification. Shots of fish is difficult, still objects work the best.

But, for $10 it's worth a shot to see what you can get.

mauron, I'll be waiting for the shots.
Rosseau, if I buy the kenko tubes I will still be able to use the lens like a regular, autofocus, setting aperature, ect?
Thanks for the help.

Kenko tubes will allow metering and autofocusing as well. However at that close distance lens autofocusing will fail anyway, therefore you will most likely be bringing the camera forward and backwards to focus. yo can always buy a macro rail which attach to the tripod and allow you to bring the camera forward and backward by rotating a wheen which will aloow more precise motions and keeps the camera at that position unless you move it.
you can still get a reversing ring (BR2A for Nikon) which will allow you to revers your 50 mm on your tubes and will increase your magnification further.
Fish shots will be really hard and you have to be lucky to have a fish go in your shallow DOF with you waiting for it and snaping the picture at the right time. I doubt you might be able to do it without a dedicated macro lens, or closeup filters as a cheap alternative.
