Awesome looking tank, especially like the picture of the blenny. Very cute, too bad he's on the short list!

XxAngelzDustxX 05/26/2003 03:58 PM

This is one of the nicest nanos I've ever seen!!! I really like the clam and candy cane. Your shrooms look awsome as well.

Nice tank......

you make me want to have one for the office. great to know that it doesn't have to be big!

dudah 05/26/2003 04:10 PM

blenny

jdsabin1 have you had any trouble with your blenny having enough to eat? Do you supplement his food with something else?

I have a lawnmower blenny in my 10 gal and I worry that sometime he will run out of food. It seems like he usually eats the slime/film algae off the rocks and glass. I got him to eat the hair algae but now that it is gone I wonder if he will do ok.

Let me know what you do to keep you blenny doing ok!

Thanks

WOW What a great tank!

jdsabin1 05/26/2003 05:30 PM

Thanks everyone for all your kind words. It always means a lot to have fellow reef enthusiasts compliment you since they understand the work involved in keeping a reef environment happy and healthy :).

Dudah - my blenny (although he's effectively outgrown the tank), still seems to be fat, dumb and happy. Aside from nibbling on the rocks, the sides of the tank, the powerheads, you name it, he eats with the other fish whenever I feed so I feel lucky to have wound up with a blenny that takes to prepared food with such a voracious appetite. I really will hate to see him go but right now he's like a bull in a china closet. He was such a little guy when I got him too.

danieljames - That is actually green star polyps. Instead of a 'Rock Of Gibraltar' I have my very own 'Rock Of GSP' :). I have kept it restrained to that rock so it doesn't start spreading everywhere else. Under my lights it really is a beautiful shade of bright green, and some have made the comment that it looks like a Chia Pet gone terribly awry ;).

I wish I could get a better picture (or more accurate I should say) of the daisy polyps. They are such a neat coral and are a real pretty purple actually. They come across to most people who come over and see them as little flowers planted in my reef and they are spreading like crazy too.

I have some hardy SPS frags (Mont Dig.) coming the end of this week so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks again everyone.

Keep up the awesome work and keep those pictures coming!

You see, it was totally worth it! And by taking the time to post about your nano, you've shared your hard work and allowed us all to "ooh" and "ahh" over your tank. Like we should! :D

Nice job!

danano 05/31/2003 11:45 AM

Jeff, looking really good... keep it up!

Have your SPS arrived? Btw, I use 3M super glue gel to secure stuff.

logical 05/31/2003 12:16 PM

Looks fan freakin tastic Jeff! You can see the love and care ooozing form that tank. Keep it up!

Peace, Bryan

matt_rogers 05/31/2003 12:39 PM

Great tank dude!

I think you just inspired me to go get that Hagen surface skimmer for my eclipse. I had wanted that some time ago and forgot about it.

love the tank....

jdsabin1 05/31/2003 02:07 PM

Thanks guys!

Bryan - I'm sure you realize those zoo's are from you. They are really nice in person. Their midnight blue color really looks nice in my tank. I plan to get some more of your zoos soon for my dwarf seahorse tank too :).

Dan - Yeah the SPS's have arrived. I was inspired by all the cool tanks at nano-reef.com, especially yours and realized that hardier SPS's are possible in a nano under PC's. I have a new light coming so am going from 64 to 96 watts to be sure and I have them on top of the rocks in good flow. They are all digitata, except for a birds nest and a purple acro. I don't hold out a lot of hope for the acro (if I keep my expectations low, perhaps I'll be surprised) but I am confident I can keep the mont digi's happy anyway.

matt - That surface skimmer is about as simpleton and cheap as they come but the craziness of it is, it works and works well. I didn't like the surface scum I was seeing on the surface of the water (and I read where that was hurting my oxygen exchange also I believe) so I bought that thing for $8 and it keeps the surface crystal clean.

I do water changes once a week and believe that is the major key to my success. Every Saturday like clockwork and after the change it's amazing how everything just rocks and rolls. I am coming dangerously close to fragging time for my zenia and anthelia *gulp*. I have done small frags but nothing like I think I am going to have to do with these weeds .. errr corals I mean ;).

Thanks again everyone. I plan to post some pictures of the new light and SPS's in a few weeks. Unless they all croak of course. :D

Three words... Insiprational and Awesome

TippyToeX 05/31/2003 03:55 PM

It is amazing what some people can achieve with a nano tank. Simply stunning. :D Keep up the good work!
Quick question, you say that you use the rowaphos in the "sump." Do you run a sump on that bad boy, or are you using the Aquaclear for the Rowaphos?

Thanks everyone :). I don't have a sump (yet), so I stick Rowaphos in a media bag in the Aquaclear. Sorry I wasn't very clear on that one.
