Wow bronco those are sweet. Good luck. Seeing how deep they live how do you think they will do in a brightly lit aquarium?

Nice pink margin, I was thinking of buying one from them. Was that flame from live aquaria as well? And what do you feed them?

I think they will adjust in the same fashion that many of the other deep water fairies adjust to captive circumstances. I have owned many deep water subjects like rhomboids, pyle's & Girdled fairy wrasses and they all do just fine. Plus if you have a well stocked aquarium with rocks they will have many of the same comforts of home. I'll let you know once I have them in my possession.

The flame was from justrarefish.com. I got a pair from Tom, just haven't taken a picture of the female yet. Will get that soon though. I feed frozen mysis, brine, cyclopeeze, and spectrum pellets.

about how many fairy wrasses would i be able to keep in a 75g tank?

im not sure which one the dot and dash wrasses are

at my LFS where i work, there are soooooooooo many different kinds of fairy wrasses that i had my mind set on purchasing some filamented, but then wanted to wait to make sure which ones i actually want

the flasher wrasses are SICK, especialy the filamented, there was this bright purple one at work where he would flare up , and it was awesome\

what do you guys think?

fairy and flasher wrasses dont need substrate to burrow, right?

Dont think so, mine sleeps on the sandbed wedged under a rock. I have seen pictures of some living in burrows in the sand though, like gobies.

where di you get that beautiful fish?

At my LFS, amazingly they had it for over a month, but I had no room. Then my midas blenny died and I replaced it with this. It was around $50-60 (£30).
It was so shy, i guess thats why it didn't sell for so long, but nows its very friendly and dashes around the tank like mad. But I've had to save it a few times after it went carpet surfing, twice i managed to catch it in mid air!

Maybe he only jumps when you are around.

lol honestly I'm pretty thankful he's only jumped while ive been there, 3 times in all! It's because he gets over excited when i feed and flashes and swims as fast as he can to the food, and then he keeps going!!

You caught him in mid air? lol thats crazy! He probably expects you'll catch him everytime he jumps now, so he thinks its safe haha

im afraid im going to end up putting too many fish in my tank, i wanted 3 filamented(1 male 2 female?), a carpenters, don and dash, mccoskers, eightlined,

and for fairy wrasses, flame, laboute, social or longfinned, lubbocks, redfin, solarensis, whipfin,

if i go with one of each, tahts 12 fish, other than that, 15 fish

They do fight with each other, but I think the mbuna solution may work with these as well, pack in as many as possible, spread the agression around. They keep their colour better that way too. Mine is fading a bit so i put a mirror in one corner, now he flashes everytime he see's his reflection and brightens up alot. I really do with i had done an all wrasse tank, love to see the results!

Rule with fairy wrasses is never put 2 males in the same tank, And get females of different size and color if of different species. If of the same species they obviously cannot be that different in color so I'm not 100% sure about that.

Well, I received my Johnsoni fairy wrasses today. I got them at about 9AM this morning. I proceeded to unpack them and start the slow process of acclimation. The fish were packed excellently by Brian @ Twilight Aquatics.Double bagged with a newspaper ring surrounding the bag to promote total darkness for the fish to relax and sleep. The bags where placed inside a foam cooler box which also sat inside of another box. When I pulled the fish out of the bag and placed them in the specimen cup they were totally asleep with mucus cocoons around them....totally relaxed and breathing gently. After about a 2 hour acclimation process I placed them in their tank in another specimen cup that has slits to promote the aquarium water to flow through the cup. The fish perked up quickly and they slowly started to get their color after being asleep for so long a time.
Late this afternoon I placed some mysis shrimp in their cup and both the male & female ate like pigs. This is a testament to great collection procedures by Brian and his dive partners. A gently collected fish always responds well to the transition to an aquarium.

I have been taking pictures throughout this whole process and I hope to have them up here soon. Sorry, I had a little bit of a family emergency this afternoon that set me back with this. But I'll get the pictures up soon.
