I'm not sure what it is, but can you tell me if that stuff under it is its waste? Is that a mouth on the right end? Does it change in appearance? Does it crawl, or grab on to anything?
yes, its waste.. i was performing the imaginary fish feeding :)

Today it seems to have protruded .. its long and stringy now..
It does change in appearance.. it almost seems like it wants to crawl... one end of it swells up and then shrinks back down..

Maybe you can help with what it is and it's needs?

Can you post more pictures of it in its different states? It could be a lot of things from just one image.

2swift - that's a starfish, possibly from Texas (Lone Star humor)! :D You'll need to get some one with more knowledge to help you with specifics.

I am hoping someone can help identify this stuff. I first noticed it when I added this green encrusting monti.

It has grown to its current size in about a year and a half.

Thanks,
Ted

That would be blue sponge. It looks pretty. I have one that is almost a bright orange in my tank. Nothing to worry about, as long as it isn't exposed to air.

tedmc2 01/26/2007 10:16 AM

Thanks Marc. It is pretty cool looking.

I'm glad you warned me about exposing it to the air. I was about to do some aquascaping over the weekend and was planning on taking the rock right out of the tank.

melev 01/26/2007 01:47 PM

If you do, you should immediately immerse it in a bucket of tank water. Any sponges exposed to air die, and can cause a cycle in the tank. Look closely at what you are doing, or make sure to submerge all rocks at all times.
