Calling all T-5 only users

Hey Guys. What T-5 Fixtures are you guys using??? I'm in the market for a new light and i want to go T-5 only

I was thinking about getting a 36" 6x39 watt fixture. to light my 36'x20"x18"i m not a huge fan of the TEK lights but i find it hard to spend 700+ bucks on an ATI Power module??? any suggestions?

CamBarr 01/03/2008 08:02 PM

oh and it needs to be a hanging fixture....

2crazyreefers 01/03/2008 08:22 PM

Well I will be the first to reply. My wife runs the acuactinic 5 bulb over her 120 LPS and I run a Marineland 4 bulb T5 over my 75 perfecto loaded sps tank with excellent results. Some of my sps do better in the 75 than they did in my 180 halide tank.

Pitcom 01/03/2008 08:32 PM

I have the tek light 6x39 over my 65 36x24x18, and i really like it.

CamBarr 01/03/2008 08:48 PM

are you doing anything to cool the bulbs???

SimilanRocks 01/03/2008 09:02 PM

I have tek 8x54 on my 120g. SPS grows great with nice colors. If I will upgrade it I will go with the ATI. The fans will help more light output and nicer colors.

I am wondering the same thing, about going t5 only. Is t5 ok on a 180?

jamesdawson 01/03/2008 09:59 PM

I have run both a TekLight and a PowerModul on my reef and there is no comparison. Coral growth and color has dramitically improved under the PowerModul. I'm even using the same bulbs in the same positions!

how is the heat issue? does the fixture gets really hot?

Fraggle Rock2 01/03/2008 10:09 PM

Fauna marin makes a T5HO unit. I don't own one so I can't say much about it.

I know it's available in Canada, not sure about the USA. I would imagine it would be though.

How long is your tank? You can go with 2x 36" or 48"

T5 will heat up about the same as MH. But MH is more of radiation that can go in the tank easier. Heat from T5 can be reduced with fans.

lovel my aquatinics over my 75. you can hand if needed, great fixture for the price.

7thheaven 01/03/2008 11:12 PM

CamBarr 01/04/2008 12:34 AM

cpreefguy 01/04/2008 12:52 AM

Tank is 72". Sounds like 2X36 is the way to go. My real question is, with T5, can I sucessfully place and grow SPS low in the tank. 25" deep.

Nova just released a PRO line with individual reflectors. Very reasonable.

Hello,

I have a ATI powermodule 6*39W on my young 40 gallon aquarium. Because the tank is in period of maturation, i can't tell you about color of SPS.

but...there is NO heat pb : 0 heat !! and the powermodule is 2 inch of the surface !

=> I'm sure I don't need an chiller on summer! When I had a HQI on my 120 gallon, I used absolutely a chiller on winter and summer !

bye

I have 20" deep tank, and I have a hard time finding spots for deep water acro frags. I'd say the light penetration of T5 and MH is about the same. You can't grow many SPS at sandbed with MH anyway.
