I had a 15 inch one but it just recently died from a eye infection I tried everything to save him I was so bumbed!!!They are a great fish lots of personality, they grow very quick and get between 3-4 feet so be prepared to house him in a very very large tank .They will eat anything that is half there size or smaller so if you want to keep smaller fish to then I would not get one of these groupers.I would go with a miniatus as they do not get as big and grow much slower. My favorite is the Saddle back grouper, but they get very large as well.Hope this helped,Chris

Thanks Reefer334 for the feedback. I think I may look into the Whitemargin Lyretail Grouper which I think only gets to be half the size of the Variola louti. I also looked at the Miniata Grouper which is also a jaw dropping fish but, I have been told the get real nasty onces the put on some size. :( Don't get me wrong most of my fish list is going to be aggressive but a large, nasty, big mouth fish the likes to swallow others might not be a good idea, but something to think about thou.
Thanks again, I might have to Pm you, U seem to have alot of fish I like and may keep oneday.
