When to run a skimmer

When and how long should a skimmer be ran?

AquaReeferMan 01/07/2008 11:25 AM

Id say put one on a week before you add fish. Then is stays on and running 24/7.

So while cycling, there is no need to run the skimmer?

AquaReeferMan 01/07/2008 11:31 AM

Not really.

Interesting. I hope some more people put their suggestions aswell.

Why not just start running it now? It won't hurt anything and it will give it a chance to break in a bit.

I run my 24-7 only time i shut it down is to clean out.Don't think it can hurt to start running when you set up.

ok great. My tank has been cycling for about 5 days and I have been running it so I guess I will just let it run through the cycle process.

Now that your skimmer question has been dealt with.
Take slow and deliberate steps in what you do to your new tank and completely research any intended specimen before you buy it. Otherwise you will end up with either a fish that will get too big or a carnivore eating $35 blood red shrimp for breaky.

Good luck.
