A.T.T.R 02/11/2007 12:53 AM

plumbing is such a pain. cnat cme up with an idea that i like

A.T.T.R 02/14/2007 11:53 PM

one light is installed. simply took a rope. and hung it. now i just gotta put in the bulbs and put on a plug...

ill post picts soon.

also i plan to install an ac unit.
remember this thing has to be compleatly contained in the building ( no holes in walls no anything sticking out side) the HOA wont allow it! :)

oh i also installed a vent system.

keep watching this is getting fun!
( lighting for soft coral tank. 75 bucks including alll the fittings and ropes)

A.T.T.R 02/20/2007 08:16 PM

Wow awesome thread!!! I'm watching this one closely!
ATTR, I'm doing the same thing in my garage. I purchased a custom made 5x3x1 tank and will be propagating corals in my garage and I have a few questions:

I think your in FL right?
You say your going to install a A/C unit. Are you installing an in the wall unit or a stand alone model?
Man I'd love to see some new pics.

Thanks

chelskisw6 02/21/2007 11:00 AM

sweet setup... that musta been a ***** to move all that stuff out of your garage, where did you put it? post more pics when you can!

A.T.T.R 02/21/2007 06:24 PM

im installing a window unit for the ac
ill take picts in a lil just go of work and i am TIRED!!
alot of the stuff i just threw out lol :)

now i will share alot of info as to the coral part of this but a few things i will actualy block out of the picts ( atleast for hte time) such as phyto culture rotifers and copepods
(POSSIABLY doing all those under lab like conditions

this whole thing is costing alot.

i may be able to get discounts on some waterstorage tanks if i get a few. so far im getting 2 and an lfs may want one. compu you intrested in trying to get a discount for a group buy
( theres a place that sells chemical vats only miles from me)

compulou 02/21/2007 10:15 PM

Yeah I'd be interested, so again I am assuming your in FL? Have you heard of Tank-Depot.com? They have a retail shop in Pompano.

A.T.T.R 02/21/2007 11:52 PM

yeah im in FL and yea tankdepot. i was there the other day.
they do not offer shipping but do " have a guy who delivers for 60 bucks in broward"
but most of hte tanks even the 1000 gallon tanks can easily fit inside the back of a pickup
i my self and looking at 300 gallon tank for SW and 100 gallon FW
(possiably 400 gallon if i find some one with a pick up truck lol)

what size tank were you looking at?

compulou 02/21/2007 11:56 PM

Exactly! I was looking at one 100 gallon tank to hold SW as my venture is no where near the size of yours. I also have a truck. Let me know if you need help.

Lou

A.T.T.R 02/22/2007 08:45 AM

ok ill start bugging them about prices as soon as the lfs decides if htey want in or not
make sure to stop off at eco reef when your up this way :Pthey have some used stuff instock
and exotic aquatic has new MH ( m58's) that he is almost giving away ( less then 50 bucks) ranging from 175 to 400 watts
and petsunlimited has some old hamiltons that they were sellin for 75 at the frag swap. im sure the deals still there( dual 175's)

but eco reef has alot of used sumps and used denitrators and lighting

A.T.T.R 02/22/2007 09:29 AM

the space these tanks take up is so huge O_O

i really want the 600 gallon since its more cost effective ( also cost the least per gallon!)

almost everything is out of the grade btw. all you see is small junk on the floor

one of the tanks with the lights over it

air vent to keep humidity down during the winter still need the ac unit for summer

MH ballast set up
the coils are in the two closed boxes

A.T.T.R 02/22/2007 09:43 AM

btw i kept the covers on the coils because i dont want you to see how they are mounted... i really dont want to be flammed
( involved alot of zipties)

A.T.T.R 02/22/2007 10:00 AM

oh so i walk into the watertank place.
and i go into the office and ask " do you sell tanks here"

ofcourse to get to the office i had to walk past several hundred tanks.

theylook at me and i go " no really i need help with prices"
lol classic

A.T.T.R 02/26/2007 11:12 PM

i decided i will add a forced air cooling system to the MH ballast ( should cost under 30 bucks

but that depends on tommorrows test

i got one MH pendant installed ,,, just need the bulb and finish wiring

PJsStuff 02/27/2007 10:51 AM

I got a neat frag tank from TSC Its ten foot long and about 24" wide and 10" deep. Even has a metal stand. Cost me $95 Its supposed to be a horse feeder but has made a great cheap frag tank.

A.T.T.R 02/27/2007 12:30 PM

nice find !

anyways

bulb #1 FIRED!!! WOOT now for the heat test :( and back to cleaning !

tank #2 should have some corals in it soon

A.T.T.R 02/27/2007 04:26 PM

i dont like SLS but sadly i am using two of each of these :( ( sorry icecap wish you made a big reflector.) the ballast im using are just everyday m58's ( will upgrade to icecaps in the near future.)

and the bulb is turning on
:) after running for 30 minutes i found that the ballast dosnt get that hot but i am still adding a fan

A.T.T.R 02/27/2007 04:28 PM

alot of the stuff on the floor is stuff that fell out of boxes while i was moving them

SaveOurReefs 02/28/2007 01:27 AM

You could also spend 10 bucks at Walmart and get 2 kiddy pools to use too. Seems to work fine for others.

PJsStuff 03/01/2007 09:48 AM

good luck trying to find a kiddy pool in december in indiana. i was going to get one of them but there would be lots of wasted space in the middle of them. It would be hard to reach all the way to the middle.
