What kind of lighting do you have?

slickshal 02/03/2004 09:16 AM

no lighting yet. i too am going w/ the ecosystem 3616. how do u like it? i was recommended 3 250watt-10k mh's and 2 96w-7100k power compacts. the reason for this is i plan on putting a lil bit of everything in the reef tank. FISH, LPS, SPS, SOFTIES, LR, ANOMENES, POLYPS AND INVERTS.......what's ur opinion????

hey reefmutt,
also...what type of occupants do you have with this lighting???

You don't want 7100's, go with 03 actinics, much better.

I run 6x65 watt PC's and the 3x400 20k's, you do want the 03actinics, your lights will be enough for whatever you plan on keeping. I have an 55 gallon diy refugium w/ 30 pounds of Miracle Mud and it works for me I also have another 55 gallon for just a sump, so I'm pushing about 250 gallons in the whole system , this is the second setup I have had like this, the other was a 45 gallon w/ a 30 long for the refugium. I have alot of sps and also some polops and lps and a couple of mushrooms, you may have to watch you temp. I have a customsealife 1/3 horse dropin chiller, nice unit. I would recomend customsealife bulbs, as they are the best color and retain it, (no I don't work for them) I just like their stuff, first rate.

I run 6500k 400W MH, 20000k 400W MH, 6500K 400W MH, and 2 160w VHO actinics and I love this combo. I have about 130 gallons of sump space and 600+ pounds of live rock with a skimmer for the filter system.

softies vs sps/lps

you might want to think about going with either hard corals or soft at first not both. im fairly new to this too and i have found out that soft corals will fight the hard corals for space with toxins. you might want to do a little reading up on it before you decide on what you want in your tank. jmo
