Calibrate with NaCl - TDS meter?
 

This is what it says on the back of my TDS meter. It is a T.D.S. & TEMP. HM Digital meter. On the back it says "calibrate with NaCl?" Does anyone know what this means and how to do it?

You need to buy a conductivity standard that's appropriate for the range you want to measure. Hopefully, there are instructions for how to use the solution?

LabSafety.com sells a wide range of calibration standards, and the American Marine PinPoint calibration standard for their low-range meter would be probably be fine as well. I assume you want to check RO-DI water?

I have no clue what I need from that site ([url]www.labsafety.com.[/url] There are no instructions on the TDS meter. It came with the Typhoon III RO/DI unit.

You'll need to ask the vendor, then.

Wow, perfect...that first link looks like what I might need. Have you ever used that?

No, I used the American Marine product, since I have their TDS meter. The picture in the second link is completely wrong, but the product is similar. The basic idea is to put the TDS meter into the solution, then adjust the readout until it matches the number on the packet. Without instructions, though, you'd just have to guess as to how to do the adjustment.

I'm not an expert on this by no means but the HM tds meter uses NaCl solution at 342 ppm. The hanna solution in the picture says 800 ppm. To my knowledge the HM units do not need very frequent calibration if your using them for RO/DI only.
