Re-aquascaped tonight...what do you think?

I've been struggling with my aquascape for awhile. I liked the look, but it wasn't the best for coral placement, and the stack on the right was really unstable. We're talking, rocking in the current, don't even look at it wrong or it may topple over unstable.

So tonight I decided to say F it.

It's more rock wallish, but I think I like.

The tank's still a little cloudy, and my corals are a little grumpy...and I can't figure out a way to manually adjust the white balance on the new camera, but let me know what you guys think.

Old

Looks good. :) I like the red Acans in the front. Is that what they are...photo's hard to tell!

scotmc 01/05/2008 11:59 PM

IMO, I like the old one better

gman0526 01/06/2008 12:03 AM

FWIW the new one looks better IMO. The coral looks like a blasto to me

LCD 01/06/2008 12:04 AM

I like the new pic better. Looks more natural not just two piles. IMO

Thanks.

Front on the sand? Or front up on the rock?

Front on the sand is a red blasto wellsi.

Front on the rock is a watermelon favites.

red13miller 01/06/2008 12:12 AM

They both look really good but I think the old scape looks better

phenom5 01/06/2008 12:13 AM

Boo!

Just kidding. I really liked the old look myself...it just wasn't working for me.

Now I've got to leave everything be, and let stuff grow. And I think I need to start adding in some SPS frags...I said I wasn't going to do it this time around, but...

TheHumbleLobste 01/06/2008 12:19 AM

Once the corals open up, I think the second will look much better overall.

RyanBrucks 01/06/2008 12:25 AM

nicely done.

looks very natural. to me it looks like the perfect mix between the isolated reef pile look (mostly what the 'old' was), and the straight up 'walls' that so many people build. It's a nicely broken up shape with a distinct silhouette. also, I love how it has overhands as this creates shadows on the rocks which makes the overall image have more depth than when people just stack with a slope.

Ya, the blasto! :) I always call Blastos Acans...

Haha yea leave it alone, ive said that countless times in the past 2 years. i just reaquascaped too and im thinking about redoing it. i just have to wait till my fiance has the next ultra sound or gyno visit so i can "borrow" some more gloves from the doctore office. i hate all the worms and stuff.

stevelkaneval 01/06/2008 01:05 AM

oh yea pic one for me but lets see how it looks once all the corals get over their bad mood.

brandon7491 01/06/2008 01:08 AM

i like pic 2 the new one now try and do a littler version of that next to it

ckprax 01/06/2008 01:47 AM

I give my vote to the current aquascape. You tank looks a lot bigger than a 20 L. Very nice

What he said...

From the pic I like the old setup better. I have always been a fan of the rock island look but I do agree that the new layout looks like there is more openness to the piles.

Same
But i wouldnt say it looks more natural most of the places i'v gone scuba on if you swim away from the reef a bit it looks just like a pile of rocks,
But i think you will be much happier with the new scape
looks good =D

cecilturtle 01/06/2008 02:17 AM

Try boring out the large rock under the pile on the left. If you are timid about this I would trade it in for a rock or two of that size that are much more open. IMO large solid liverock is a waste of precious space and often hinders flow and design options. My $.02

phenom5 01/06/2008 10:37 AM

Thanks for all the compliments.

Especially that one. That is high praise for a nano...although, I'm not sure if that's just because my frags are so small. :hyper: :(

Interesting. That rock really is a lousy piece. That one of the reasons why I have, and will continue to avoid Fiji LR in the future. The only problem I have with trading it/ boring it out...I'd have to breakdown the rock to get to it.

I'll try to get some update pictures up later on this evening.

i like your avatar best...

vanmo92 01/06/2008 11:35 AM

I like the old one, but I can see how it would create trouble, I think you will like the new one better.

tmanning 01/06/2008 12:07 PM

Second one best for sure...

dabears1983 01/06/2008 01:43 PM

Yes, I think that the old one looks better also. when that happens to me I just rearrange again till I like what it looks like.

dascharisma 01/06/2008 02:47 PM

I like them both, but I think they would look better with a black background.
