miracle mud?

"miracle mud" usually suggested for fuge's and why ??????
what are pros and cons?

The presumed idea is that it releases minerals like iron that may be useful. Iron is sometimes useful, but can be obtained in other ways. I don't use mud in my refugia.

I use a mix of miricle mud and carib sea refugium mineral mud in my refugium.
I have had my 75 gal mixed reef tank set up this way for over 4 years.
I have chaetomorpha growing in the fuge
around 80 lbs of live rock in the display tank
no skimmer
I will use carbon from time to time
I love this set up, you should give it a try, people will tell you that you are crazy, then they will tell you they love your tank.
Now I can't say the mud is the miricle, but it works for me.

Most of the best looking tanks I have seen in person use this product so I decieded to aswell. I have had great success with my first SPS tank(so far) and owe it to the advice from fellow reefers.

Most of those guys have refugiums with the Mud, Nitrate exporters, good skimmers etc.....

I sure you can do very well with or without but I like how it has worked well for me so far (1 year). It seems like the corals are always feeding to me :)

I used the product previously and have since changed my feeling toward the product. I really don't think that the "secret" is in the mud but rather in having a balanced system in regards to water chemistry, bio-load and effective skimming. I feel that the product is just enhanced and the same effect can be achieved with regular aragonite sand and your macro of choice. If the product requires 50% replacement every 18-24 months what's the "miracle". Many way's to have a successful tank, that is a way I no longer choose.

Cheers,
