Lavender Tang(Surgeon)

I just recieved a Lavender tang from a winning raffle at the SCMAS meeting. I dont know much about it but after acclimating it i introduced it at night with just my lunar LEDs and it did fine. My 3'' yellow tang was a bit of a bully and did not cause any real damage. Just a small nik on the lavenders face. the wouldn't stop chasing one another for a few hours. Than in the morning they were perfectly fine together. This is a beautiful fish and i am glad that they now get along. The yellow tang would of been the one to go if they didn't get along... Thanx Southern California Marine Aquarium Society.

Look at MarineCenter.com's website. They have Lavender Tangs and offer some basic info to help you get started. Good luck. Beautiful fish!

Are you planning on a upgrade? Two tangs in a 40, is a bit small. My blue uses all of my 90.

RileyCFR 11/20/2007 12:02 AM

Def. planning on upgrading, when not to sure. As sson as a good deal comes my way i will have a minimum of a 90 long...

hate to echo, but yeah, you need more tank space as they grow over the next year. Beautiful fish! Congrats on your raffle win!

ick....

ick........ Best way to cure it...

John Dawe 11/21/2007 05:11 PM

ICK

Copper is best of ick, hyposalinity will also work well.
But if it is Marine Velvet caused by Amyloodinium sp., Copper will work and hypossalinity will not.

RileyCFR 11/21/2007 05:51 PM

So when using copper it is to my best understanding you must place the tang in QT?

John Dawe 11/21/2007 05:59 PM

Yes, if you have a reef tank, and you need to treat all the fish in your tank. If one has it, they will all have it to some extent.

I use Non-medicated Anti-Parasitic pellets when I get new fish. I have 2 tangs, and a few other fish, and after using this food, haven't had any parasitic problems.

I've had that and i just started to only feed that untill i see a big improvement, thanks!

RileyCFR 11/23/2007 01:19 PM

I am now starting treatment with Kick-Ich By Ruby Reef(Reef Safe Product)... Day one 4 oz for 50 gal total set-up... Will continue to update!

redhdmedic 11/23/2007 04:10 PM

I've always had great luck with Kick-Ich...but some other people don't like it...good luck, and way to go with your tang!

RileyCFR 11/23/2007 06:25 PM

R.I.P. Lavender Tang... the stress load was too much for my tang. It was such a beautiful fish with such a short lived life. I Don't plan to aquire anymore TANGS untill I have the 1: proper tank(size), 2: a means of treating them in such cases(QT). QT is always the best thing so my next project will be a qt tank asap. It is a good practice gone without.

redhdmedic 11/25/2007 01:59 AM

sorry to hear about your loss...good luck with your future plans...
