help with tank reno's

i want to do some tank renovations, but have no place to put my mantis really, just wondering how long he would be okay in a gallon conatiner with a heater and rock (no water movement) hes a small smithii maybe 2" long

Do you have another reef tank?

If so, you could probably house him in a plastic container with holes drilled/cut into it.

no other reefs set up at the time, maybe if i buy a mini pump to toss in there for movement? it would be 24 hours at most

A small air pump with some airline tubing would likely be sufficient for a day or 2.

I currently have about 20 2-3'' G. smithii being used in some research. Each is housed in a half gallon plastic tub with a 4 inch piece of pvc for a container and the water is about 4 inches deep. There is no circulation and the temperature is around 75 degrees (room temperature in my lab). The water is changed three times a week three hours after feeding. (I use live adult brine shrimp to cut down on decomposition.

This may sound spartan, but the animals have been held this way for two months and we have yet to lose one. They are tough animals and as long as you don't let the water go "off' from uneaten food, they do fine.
