I just purchased a RS250 for my 180g tank and had a quick question on the recommended water level.

The manual is generic for all models and says that the optimal water level is 6"-8". This seems kind of weird because my RS80 is 22" tall and my RS250 is 30" tall, so I figured the bigger skimmer would proportionally have a higher water level. Does anyone w/ the RS250 have any real world recommendations for the water level? Should I use 6" on my RS80 and 8" on my RS250? or just shoot for 7" on both?

shag26272 05/22/2007 09:52 PM

I found on my RS-80 that it is easier to dial in if it is closer to the 8 inches

sjm817 05/22/2007 09:56 PM

ER recommends for the RS250 to have the water level just covering the top of the pump elbow. Nice skimmer BTW.

When is the last time anyone here has gotten hold of ER customer service.

I have been emailing them for going on 3 weeks without a response.

sjm817 05/22/2007 10:05 PM

I have always had better luck calling them.

shag26272 05/22/2007 10:05 PM

Ive had that problem with them before when I needed a new pump, some people say the customer service is awesome but they are one of the worst in my opinions.

[welcome]

Hope you will be a regular.

Hi,

I'm going to buy the same skimmer for my planned 180g as well.

I, too, am not getting any email responses from ER...

Can you do me a favor? Can you measure the height from the bottom of the skimmer to the bottom of the 90-degree elbow?

Also, are the pieces that make up that gate valve removable? Or are they glued in?

Thanks

Hi:

Recently I bough an Euroreef RS 100 and I'm in the middle of the registration process but I just cant find the serial number of the sedra 3500 pump. If someone can tell me were is it I will appreciate it.

Thank you,

shag26272 05/23/2007 12:24 AM

theres a label on it, you cant miss it

EuroReef Tec1 05/23/2007 12:56 AM

Shag is right.
There is a Euro-Reef, Inc label on it. Its silver. The serial number is on it.

Tbone: I will messure the skimmer when I get into my office tomorrow and post here.

Thanks. I'm having a sump made, and I'm considering directing the skimmer's drain into the fuge. So I need to know how high (or low) to build the baffle. I also need to know if that gate valve is attached via slip fittings, and if they're glued in or not. I may need to mod it a bit to reach over to the fuge area.

rickyscuba 05/23/2007 09:49 AM

Hmmm? I think my pump comes without the label.
Now, what can I do?

shag26272 05/23/2007 09:54 AM

it should be on the side of the pump it basically takes up the whole side, maybe the can give you a new number or something

Tbone: From the bottom of the skimmer to the top of the 90 degree is about 11 1/4''. And you have 2'' in between the down pipe and the up pipe at the narrowest point (where the gate valve is). Also the pieces are slip fitted and glued.

Aquaticman74 05/23/2007 11:13 AM

What's the word on the 10" skimmers? I know Jeff said May/June as a target release date. Anyone have any further info?

Thanks a lot! Looks like it will be a tough mod with those distances and the fact that the pieces are glued. My planned baffle height for the fuge is 17", and the distance between the skimmer section and fuge is 3"

If I were to mod the up-pipe by replacing it with a longer piece, and I added a short, horizontal piece before the 90-degree, would that affect the skimmer's performance?

EuroReef Tec1 05/23/2007 11:53 AM

I have never tried this but I am pretty sure it would effect the performance in some way. I guess you could always try it and see. I wouldnt be too concerned with the horizontal piece but making the up pipe longer does. Just a side question: Why are you running the skimmer output directly into the fuge?

Good question. My initial goal was to keep plumbing simple. I thought it would be easy to feed the fuge - low flow - via the skimmer's drain. Based on your feedback, however, it's probably less work to just T-off the tanks' drain or to T-off the return!

Side question: Why does it cost less to order skimmers via online vendors (e.g. SaltyCritter) than to order directly from your website?

EuroReef Tec1 05/23/2007 12:56 PM

To keep it even more simple you can build an acrylic wall ad have a MJ900 or so pumping water through or over the wall for the fuge and have a hole/ grate right at water level for the water return exit for the fuge. This makes the water contact time in fuge greater and keeps the flow down. plus it only involves one hose and a small pump!

Yes, that was my initial plan, until I came up with my "brilliant" idea to drain the skimmer into the fuge...not so brilliant as it turns out! :D

Did you see my question regarding why pricing is higher on your website? Do you guys do price matching?

CarlosS 05/23/2007 01:37 PM

Hi guys:

What happens if the elbow (discharge) is located to much high?
