Tank update (with pics)

My 55 gallon reef has been setup for just over 18 months now, so I figure its time for some pictures. First, here are some specs:
-50 lbs LR
-Fish=1 O. Clown, 1 Dragon Goby, 1 Yellow Foxface
-Inverts=1 BTA, 1 T. Squamosa clam, various snails/inverts/pepp shrimp
-Softies=blue/red mushrooms, toadstool leather, kenya tree, green star polyps, starburst polyps, various zoas
-LPS=frogspawn, candy canes
-SPS=orange Monti Cap
-Equimpment=216 watt T5 lights, CSS 65 skimmer (replacing soon),3 MJ 900 PH, and small CPR aquafuge with chaeto
.....I hope to add more hard corals/a green mandarin in the next few months, and hopefully will be able to upgrade soon as well. Thanks for looking,
-Matt

very nice!!

new_world_disor 11/23/2007 01:49 PM

beatiful colours there. good work

CeeGee 11/23/2007 02:52 PM

the tank looks good.

It would look even better if you would spend about 20 minutes and scrape all that coraline off the back.

msuzuki126 11/23/2007 03:31 PM

Awesome, one of the nicer 55s I've seen! That nem is very nice too.

Potsy 11/23/2007 03:46 PM

Very nice! Those two colors of mushrooms look awesome next to each other - kind of got a complementary color thing going.

If you don't mind my saying, I'd move that squamosa to the right side of the tank where there isn't much color going on and face it perpendicular toward the front at a slight angle for a clear view of the mantle - and those awesome mushrooms won't be hiding behind the clam.

Looks great. How long have you had the Monti cap for & how big was it when you got it?

Nabob89 11/23/2007 04:56 PM

thanks for the compliments...
CeeGee-yeah I plan on scraping it all off soon....I've just been putting it off since it looks like a huge pain :)
Potsy-I think I will move the squamosa....partly because I really like the mushrooms and don't like how theyre hiding, but also because its now growing up against the glass and needs more room
sirgeez-I've had it for just under 5 months.....when I got it, it was only the size of the center (the part in the pic that is bumpy in the middle).....all of the folds (areas without the bumps) are the new growth.

Very pretty tank Nabo, can you by chance take a picture of your little fuge on the back for us?
I have thought about doing that on one of my tanks, but not sure about lighting for it.
Is it lit by the light on top, or did you have to add one over just it?
Also, I love your shrooms but yes, please move that pretty clam over a bit so we can see them better:)
Beautiful BTA also.
Thanks

Nice job !!!

Nabob89 11/24/2007 01:56 AM

thegheco-I will take a close-up picture of it tomorrow, but for now, you can see some of it in the first picture (left side/back of tank). I have a small TOP brand light on the fuge (i'm not positive of its specifics as I picked it up from a friend who broke down their tank). I've found this HOB fuge to be very easy to maintain and a good option since my stand is too small for a sump. My only problem is its size....I frequently have to trim the chaeto because it grows rapidly in such a small space.....this isn't a huge problem, but getting one of the large models could avoid the frequent trimmings.

Thanks for the info Nabo.
I look forward to the picture of it.
Is this available retail or did you make it yourself?
I wonder if a hang on filter would do the same thing?

SurfnFish 11/24/2007 11:29 AM

Yes, a HOB Filter can do the same thing:

Here's the picture of the fuge. Its the CPR Aquafuge which I bought at my LFS, but I've also seen it on many online stores...And yes, you can make a fuge out of a filter, I'm just bad at DIY projects/lazy :)
