My 120 Gallon Setup
 

I was looking all over to find the right forum for my thread and can't see to find it. Mods if you know where it is, please move my thread there. I got the tank from a friend of mine who is taking a break from the hobby for a while. It's a custom made GlassCages 120 tank. Dimmensions are 48 x 24 x 25 Tall. The front is starfire glass. The tank is in very good condition. The stand and canopy are made from All-Glass Aquariums which fits perfect the tank. After getting most of the plumbing supplies, mostly online and the rest from Home Depot, I went ahead and glued everything together.

I had my neighboor cut a 1" hole in my 30 gallon sump for the Pan World pump. The other guy who had the setup ran an internal pump. I prefer external pumps better, less heat and longer life.

I also had my neighboor cut a hole in my stand so I can mount my ReefKeeper 2 controller flushed. He has all the right tools. I would have never done this myself.

Inside the tank is the ReefKeeper 2 and Kill-A-Watt to meassure excatly much amps and watts is this system going to pull. I also good the data splitter so I can hook both the temperature probe and also to my laptop for the MyReef application to monitor everything online.

I plan to feed the JBJ Artica 1/5 HP chiller directly from the main pump and dump the output back to the tank instead of the sump, this way won't loose any gph. Will finish up the chiller plumbing over the weekend and hopefully fire it up with fresh water and some vinegar to clean up the tank. This is my second and hopefully final plumbing since the first time I missed a ball valve to restrict the water from main line to the chiller and chiller back to main line and I had everything glued!!

For now I will only set one Vortech with wireless driver since it will be FOWLR for the beggining and then decide wether I will need a second one for chorals. These damn things are expensive! There will be 4 T5's powered by a Ice-Cap 660 ballast and 2 double ended 250 metal halides with reflectors powered by a Blue Wave ballast. Skimmer will be a used custom short H&S recirculating skimmer with 1 eheim pump, will do a gravity feed on that one. I will use two 200 watt titanium Finex heaters for redundancy and a JBJ Artica 1/5 HP chiller. Will use a Tunze Osmolator 3155 for water Auto Top Off.

VERY NICE SO FAR FATTY

Just installed one Vortech with fresh water mixed with vinegar to clean the tank. Boy this thing can move amazing amount of water on 120 gallon!!!

I forgot to post a photo of my biggest investment. Deltec Calcium reactor PF601S and custom short H&S External Skimmer A200-1260.
I was planning to put either one under the stand but it will be a PITA to service them later. Will put them on a remote location on the left side of the tank.

For now I am going to put 90-100 pound of rock and white sand. Yes those are check valves.

Is that tap water through a garden hose?? The check valves are in place because your sump won't handle the back flow from your tank??

Yes that is tap water and I am planning to use that water just to check for leaks and rinse the tanks since it is a used one and I had it previously filled with water and vinegar. The check valve are there because I feed my chiller and dump the water back on the main line instead of dumping into sump and loosing head pressure. I was suggested that those clear valves had some horror stories of cracking up. The reason why I got them clear was that I wanted to see if the water was getting returned backed on the inline and not get in a stale closed loop. So I think I will have to redo some of my plumbing and put regual pvc ball check valve since I know now that water flows through and hopefully will squize in either my skimmer or my calcium reactor if a rearrange my sump.

Well thanks to Marvin's suggestion regarding the clear union check valves cracking, I took all the plumbing down and pushed the sump all the way to the far end corner of the stand and surprisely both skimmer and reactor fits under the stand now. I should have waited before I got both the skimmer and reactor before I did the plumbing but now this will be the 3rd replumbing and hopefully the final one :)
