steelhealr 09/03/2005 01:38 AM

WTG. Nice. I'm seeing more posts from people setting up cephalopod tanks. Was 'taboo' for awhile. SH

Awesome video but was that a blue ring??? If so, YIKES!!!

deepbelow 09/23/2005 05:04 AM

that was great. thanx alot

macDRE 09/28/2005 08:05 PM

was that a blue ring?was that octopus in your reef tank?ifso i thought that octopuses cant be in a reef tank

Ray Whisperer 10/01/2005 10:18 AM

I've heard that too. I think it's referring to other inhabitants lives. ie fish crabs snails. My octo is in with coral snails brittle star an urchin and until the fish killed it some kind of nudibranch. No problems at all. The blue fin damsel is the most destructive thing in the tank.

Ray Whisperer 10/01/2005 11:52 AM

Finally downloaded all of it( dialup). That was a neat idea. Nice blue ring.

Carman34L 10/03/2005 05:14 PM

Where does on get a Blue ring Octo?

Ray Whisperer 10/03/2005 07:46 PM

I got mine from a freind after I told him how dangerous it was. Probably not the best pet as it can easily kill you. But many pet shops sell them.

rwhhunt 10/04/2005 07:57 PM

WOW THAT WAS SOOO COOL!! Does that blue ring not mess with the purple tang or viseversa??? I would love to get a bimac in a reef tank, but would those try to kill any fish tankmates??? What do you feed your BRO? does he hand feed???

fishgk 10/14/2005 03:08 PM

it's really rare that an octo won't destroy anything and everything in a tank with other fish in it. i would stick with a species only tank if you want an octo, especially a bimac. very cool video by the way corpsman, and great song! i was just wondering how you have the tank sealed and how you have your filtration set up for the tank. i'm still working out small kinks for my octo tank.

nikoendo 10/15/2005 06:57 PM

niceee

corpsman 10/16/2005 08:37 AM

The tank has a single closed loop. Also a sump and skimmer. The only think the octopus has eaten has been emerald crabs and hermits.

allstar.h2o 10/22/2005 04:09 PM

Thats a cute little bugger. Do you keep anti-venom in your fridge?

allstar.h2o 10/22/2005 04:20 PM

Cuz if you do you have to inject directly into the heart through the sternam. Like in Pulp Fiction!

KAiNE 10/26/2005 01:16 PM

The bite of the blue-ringed octopus may be painless but it is definitely deadly. Its venom contains some maculotoxin which is more violent than any animals found on land. This poison is 10,000 times more potent that cyanide. Upon being bitten, the victim’s nerve conduction is stopped and paralysis sets in after a few minutes. Paralysis is then followed by death. Some symptoms are as follows:

*Nausea

*Blindness

*Loss of all other senses

If you do see someone get bit you should immediately call 911, and then apply compression to the wound as if it was a snake bite. Artificial respiration should also be started as soon as possible. The only way to survive is hours of heart massage and artificial respiration until the poison has worked its way out of the system. There is no anit-venom to date.

corpsman 10/26/2005 03:42 PM

Guess how many people have died from blue ring octopus bites in recorded history? Take a stab...

3 ever.

KAiNE 10/26/2005 03:52 PM

I hope you didn't feel I was flaming you, I wasn't. I'd love to have one!
"recorded history" must always be taken with a grain of salt, just when did recorded history start in the areas this animal lives?

I was correcting the previous post concerning "anti-venom".

I would have a dedicated system for one if they lived longer.

Nice vid BTW!

yodawagon 11/14/2005 02:58 PM

as dangerous as they are, i know where to get cobras and rattlers through the mail! now thats scary!

JBrown 12/27/2005 01:11 PM

That's a cool video

Morgandy 12/28/2005 11:29 AM

That is one of my all-time favorites in the video thread. Would an octopus (not blue ring) be a meal for puffers? (I assume yes?)

corpsman 12/31/2005 07:48 PM

Thanks man!

Big Squid 12/31/2005 07:54 PM

corpsman,
I finally got back on R/C.....Once again, nice Video....
