Oh no Majano?!

So I recently got some new live rock and it came with what I thought was a cool little hitchhiker. I've never had any anemone or coral before so I thought man how neat, its even multiplying! It split in half and so I thought well, I better identify it. Uh oh...

I've been told it may be a majano anemone.

Kind of a bummer since I think the little guys are cool looking. They move around quite a bit. Very interesting to me. But alas, if someone could confirm it is a majano I suppose I'll have to do away with them.

Thanks,

I know! I thought they were so cute too. Mine looked like baby BTAs.

I had some I thought were neat as well. My LFS told me it was majano and it looked like your pic. I have not done anything about it as of yet as I had a slight problem with my tank, which caused the anemone to go back in and I have not seen it in a few weeks now! LOL!

Confirmed Majano, get rid of it asap. It's unfortunate, because I also agree that they're beautiful. The main problem is their uncontrolled reproduction. They'll pop up all over your tank and sting your other corals.

Ahh dang. Well, looks like its time for a bit of reef combat. Time to take them out. Man I'm beginning to feel like I need to become an armature biologist to figure all this out. Especially after seeing zhenjw's pic. I would have also thought that was a baby BTA. Ha! For that matter I thought mine were mini Zoanthids! LOL.

Thanks much guys

I specifically asked for mine at the reef store when I was starting out not knowing what I was getting. They gave them to me free, what a bargain!

LOL when i first started i went into a lfs and saw thoes on a rock and aptasia and thought i scored big, then i found out what they were and had a buttload to kill... they sill harm your corals too.. and boy do they ever re-produce.
