Have you noticed an improvement in tank health?

spazz 08/01/2005 12:24 AM

there has been some improvment in the corals. thay are coloring up better now. i still have a long way to go with the tank. i still have to get the nitrates to zero. i was with out a skimmer for 2 weeks. and the skimmer i had berlin skimmer before this one. so the tank was never skimmed that great to begin with.

LOL that little JG fitting on teh bottom is gonna do you NO good when you try to let the sludge go through it...better get a knife and cut it out
Lunchbucket
i just stured it up real good so it would flow through the JG valve.
just wait until i put an ozoner on the skimmer. it should double the output of the skimmer. then i will have cement for a bigger driveway. lol:D :D :D

Lunchbucket 08/01/2005 12:40 AM

LOL one way of getting the house to yourself.

man...i can't imagine this skimmer w/ ozone...unreal

Absolutely Incredible. I've sent you a pm.

humboldt reefer 08/01/2005 02:16 PM

Haha that is one beast of a skimmer!

rufio173 08/05/2005 10:43 PM

I've really come to believe that the funnel is pretty important for producing a more consistent skim...

Awesome skimmer by the way. :)

Peace,
John H.

Hmmm, now I see why a self-cleaning head can be useful. Great skimmate production spazz

spazz 08/09/2005 01:34 AM

i just bought an ozone generator from a member here on r/c. now the skimmate production has increased by 20-30%. when the ozoner is running the foam gets very dark and chunky. its like adding 2 more pumps to the skimmer. now that i have an ozoner, i dont think i would ever be with out one. they make that much difference to the skimmer. now i have to get an orp controller so i dont over dose the tank with ozone. i run the ozoner for 3-6 hrs a day when im home.

Simply amazing results you're getting! How thick is the acrylic on the skimmer body?

spazz 08/09/2005 02:17 AM

its 1/8" thick 12" diam cast acrylic tube for the body.

Lunchbucket 08/09/2005 05:46 AM

more dark skimmate w/ the ozone...hope you have a pressure washer. soon you won't be able to get the sludge off the cup :D

Peace,
John H.
John i all so think that the funnel is very important, had one on a small german skimmer many years ago and it work well for it size.We do not see many on skimmer because of the cost.of the funnel.

rufio173 08/14/2005 06:42 AM

I agree Rgibson,

Getting the funnel right is hard to do and so many manufacturer's don't even attempt it, but it's perfect way of avoiding airtrapping, which can cause turbulence at the top where your skimmate is forming and then give you a less consistent skim.

I gotta give Spazz credit for attempting such a feat... it would have been real easy to just make a skimmer w/ out one that would have performed pretty well, but now he's got that extra edge. :)

Peace,
John H.

i have one of spazz's cones on my 6" ER 6-2+ knock off and it ROCKS. looks very professional and IMO helped my skimmer perform a LOT better. the cone was flawless IMO...yet he seemed not to think so...something about a little wave in the acrylic...i couldnt' tell at all

rufio173 08/14/2005 02:01 PM

LB,

I'm glad you enjoy his work, hopefully in a few months I'll be able to say the same. He mentioned to me that the diameter of the cone is not exactly flawless and may waver by a quarter of an inch, but still within tolerances since he's got a nice big flange from which to glue it to. :)

Take some pics of that guy. I'd like to get some closer shots of it. Hehe

Peace,
John H.

Lunchbucket 08/14/2005 09:57 PM

i can't tell it wavers at ALL. take a pic of my 6-2?? it is a different companys skimmer he just made me a cone and twist locks for it. ok i take that back he made me from the cone up. made twistlocks, cup, wetneck, cone....great stuff

Lunchbucket

rufio173 08/15/2005 05:05 AM

I know LB... You've got a reefmania w/ his stuff retrofitted to it, but I'd still like to see what it looks like... like to know how the wetneck is working for you... I'm sure that helps out a lot.

Peace,
John H.

Lunchbucket 08/15/2005 02:49 PM

i JUST cleaned the skimmer riser and cup about 5min before these pics

full skimmer/sump. i have my pvc out of my skimmer like that just in case it overflows out of the output it will dump in the sump and no where else.

top down of twistlock and cone/flange

wetneck NOT in use. i have shut it off since moving to test it w/out the wet neck. also since i have such a LOW bioload i was getting more water then helping the skimmate up the riser into the cup. from what i have run it...it seems that it will work better w/ a bigger bioload.

any qustions just ask away
thanks spazz for the awesome cone, riser, cup, and wetneck.
