First time I've seen that tank from Germany. Absolutely stunning!

srb5046th 09/23/2005 08:51 AM

Not many BB's in the group. Interesting.....

ReeferMonkey 09/23/2005 09:00 AM

My idol is BB but I don't have the pic here at work and don't want to leech his bandwidth. Will post this evening.

cward 09/23/2005 03:40 PM

There a lot of awesome tanks out there, but Steve's is my favorite.

Yes, it is interesting. I think I saw at least 1 starboard tank....but most are shallow sand beds....I'm sure we'll see more BB now that you've mentioned it. I don't think it says anything really...except maybe that sand looks better in a display tank.

All of the tanks posted in this thread so far have matured over several years. The recent BB "trend" started about 18 months ago. Give them a little time....

dgasmd 09/23/2005 07:10 PM

Actually, there are several tanks here that are BB. Look closely After a tank has been BB for a few months, so much grows int he bottom that you don't even see the BB anymore.

Nammy 09/23/2005 10:39 PM

Here's my favorite Tank. Don't know who it belongs to.

LeftCoast 09/24/2005 09:08 AM

Wow, that's all softies. Never seen an entire tank like that.

cward 09/24/2005 09:28 AM

That is an awesome softie tank. I would love to see a video of it so we could see the movement of the corals.

AcroSteve 09/24/2005 01:49 PM

If I remember correctly, that tank was "Posed" with many artificially colored corals with little or no long term chance of survival.

Spectactular - yes, realistic - no.

kimoyo 09/24/2005 01:56 PM

AcroSteve,
I don't believe thats a posed tank. In the another thread where that was posted someone said the same thing and another reefer gave the specifics on the tank.

The bright orange and pink corals are aphotosynthetic, either Dendronephthya or Scleronephthya.

K-Dubbs 09/24/2005 03:36 PM

Yea, I don't see what couldn't be real in the tank.
Mabey it would be hard to maintain a few of the corals in there, but it can be done.

Detritivore 09/24/2005 06:11 PM

some corals in the tank dont appear on the reflection on the left pane. i think the tank is real and so are most of the corals.

Travis 09/24/2005 06:20 PM

kimoyo, could you post the link to that thread. This is getting a bit off topic for this thread. IMO, the tank does not look 100% "real". You cannot see a reflection of the large umbrella. I also see large xenia heads that are surrounded by and being touched by many anemones. This stuff doesn't "jive" in my book.

kimoyo 09/24/2005 06:28 PM

Its just the angle of reflection. Look at the reflection at the top with the ripples, heres a better pic.

And the company that owns that tank is C.P.Farm, they grow corals in the tank from what was said in the other thread.

Travis - I lost all my subscriptions a few months back so I don't have the thread anymore.

The reflection is absolutely correct.
This is still the best looking tank in the world IMO.
Softies are just as beautyful as the hard corals so deal with it.

It seems like there is quite a good growth in the gorals so it does not look like this is a posed tank, but there is some macroalgae in there and it looks pretty too.

Bingo. Whatever it looks like, some corals likely would require regular replacement. Either that, or they're able to maintain corals in this tank that they are quite unique in being able to have thrive long-term.

Lovely, but long-term viable? I dunno, but I'd like to see some time-lapse shots to demonstrate the longevity.

dgasmd 09/25/2005 06:32 AM

OK, so this thread took a dive oficially................

I agree.............

A dive, where?
It's just a discussion on idol tanks.

I think this thread is for posting pictures not discussing. So, yes, it has taken a dive. Let's see if we can get it back on topic as it is a really great thread.

Actually, if we want to get really technical this thread is for sps dominated tanks so the softie tank is off topic, but I'm not complaining about that one as it is a beatiful tank.

Jorsan 09/25/2005 06:13 PM

The tank from CPFARM receives water from the ocean, is not a closed system, thats why they keep those corals.
