Both of the pool and the tank would hurt the value of the house as you are limiting the number of people that would be interested in the house as few people want the chore of caring for either one.
Limiting potential customers does not translate into hurting the value of the house. It just means less people are likely to be interested, but if/when the interested customer comes around the house won't be worth less. It's actually the opposite effect IMHO. Additionally, my point was that a bank would still finance the house for the full value, which I still believe to be accurate.

BrianD 03/12/2007 04:49 PM

The tank would be viewed as an "attractive nuisance" (much like a pool) and would not help the value of the house.

Hey David, sounds like a potential buyer here!

My point was I would have to ask so much more than what the "house" is worth. The bank won't lend more than what the "house" is worth so the buyer would have to put cash down for what the tank is worth.

I think it going to look nice in the new basement. The current plan is it will sit at a 45degree angle with the tank room behind it. Next to it will be two clam look down tanks. The main 10' side will have the best view from the family room area of the basement and the 5' side can be viewed from my office.

David MC Lee 03/12/2007 11:08 PM

lglamb if you want to stop by some night with the tanks, that would be fine. I should be here.

David MC Lee 03/13/2007 09:49 PM

Here is how the basement will be setup.

David,

If the office isn't already setup as drawn, you could install glass french doors to the office for easier viewing of the tank (whether the doors are open or shut). Just a thought...

Congrats on the new house, and good luck with the move!

Nice setup.

How are you going to get that 16 foot couch down the stairs?

:)

Keep on Truckin 03/14/2007 10:51 AM

On your back ;)

David MC Lee 03/14/2007 07:18 PM

The couch is in 5 parts. Right now the basement is unfinished so I can do anything I want with it.

lglamb 03/16/2007 09:08 AM

So, David, forget anything recently?

Or... AnyOne?

:)

let me know if you need help on the basement

drew22to375 03/17/2007 08:00 AM

Heck David why don't you just fill your new basement with saltwater. It might be less work than moving your tank. :d

Drew..

ziac 03/19/2007 12:09 PM

david the local sign company ( Amierican dowel ) has a crane that it rents i know they are the cheapests in town a back hoe can lift 3800 lbs so the tank would be no problem. i own a 14' box truck that will handle the wieght easy

killermagoo 03/19/2007 11:28 PM

Hey Dave.. we haven't met but I've been reading your posts and admiring your tank photos. If your needing something to lift a tank I got it. At work I have 4 skytraks. Each one is capable of lifting 6 tons 36 feet in the air. They are construction site forklifts. Id be glad to help you. My boss would let me use one whenever I want on a weekend. he might just want someone to pay for the gas to haul it there and back. We have a dually with a huge trailer that it rides one. The trak weighs about 25,000 pounds. I use them daily to lift walls, sheeting and trusses to build apartments.. Let me know if you might be interested.. What town you moving to?

lglamb 03/20/2007 10:57 AM

I vote we "sticky" KillerMagoo's post for future, constant, reference.

:)

David's new neighbors are loving him already. :)

David MC Lee 03/21/2007 10:41 PM

ziac & killermagoo I will let you know. Thanks
Looks like the move date will be about the 3rd week in June.

David MC Lee 04/13/2007 07:52 PM

We did it. The house is ours. I think I may try to move the fish a bit sooner than later. Can't move them until we make the basement floor look "pretty". Is anyone up for helping move? Both fish stuff or normal junk? If so can you reply as to which. Thanks

epon 04/13/2007 07:54 PM

Congrats!, put me on the help to move both list.

cioutlaw 04/13/2007 08:40 PM

Congrats on the new house David!! I will help if available.

w2 04/13/2007 10:00 PM

David - Congrats! I will help if we can work around my insane work schedule. It was pretty normal, until today. My days off just got halved. Let me know what day(s) you're looking at, and I will be able to let you know if I'm off work.

lglamb 04/13/2007 11:12 PM

Surely, I'm stupid.

And stop calling me Shirley.

Out of town that Sunday, maybe +- 1.

Lowell
