DIY Lighting Systems, Bulbs, Ballasts, More.
Here's one for lighting. They carry name brands like Coralife, Ushio, IceCap, PFO Lighting and Sunlight Supply. Pretty good prices.

MH ballasts cheap.

For low cost, quiet fans:
www.alliedelec.com here is the page it's on: http://www.alliedelec.com/catalog/pf.asp?FN=432.pdf I believe the most popular model is the 50cfm Orion OA109AP-113TB or the OA109AP-113WB. At $13.50 each, you can't beat them. |
Link to reefcentral's DIY page inthe first post doesnt work. Did it get lost in the server upgrade? or is it still around?

For info on pipe threading sizes, etc
Here is a good web page that helps you determine what size of pipe threading you have, plus some pipe jargon...like what NPT means! (National Pipe Thread)

Glass Grinding Brass tubes
Cheaper alternative to Diamond Bits if you have a lot of holes to drill.
Information here: http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87270 But found out that Aquatic Ecosystems has them too. For 1 3/4" search for GB6, see the related items for the powder and clay. |
great thread

PlumbingSupply.com
most common items are just a few cents more than savko. but they have some uncommon fittings that i didn't find at savko.
for example, they carry a 1.5" FipxMip street elbow. just what i needed to fit in 1.5" bulkheads w/o adapters. www.plumbingsupply.com they're also fast shippers too :D |
nomex for thermal protection
To protect your canopy or spacers from scorching due to the heat generated by your bulbs, try using a strip of nomex between your reflector and canopy/spacer. You can find nomex at McMaster Carr: www.mcmaster.com

dumb question..can "superglue" be used to make a baffle
systm for my sump w/ plexi-glass? will superglue fuse plastic? |
No such thing as dumb questions, only dumb answers. If the sump and baffles are acrylic, use IPS Weld-On #16. If one or the other is glass, use aquarium grade silicone. Acrylic cement actually melts the two parts together forming a chemical bond. Superglue will work for a short time, but water pressure may slightly bow out the sump walls or the baffle, causing the joints to fail eventually.

Need source for nylon hardware
1 Attachment(s)
OK all you DIY'ers - I'm hunting for a source for nylon hardware - nuts and bolts - but I need panel nuts rather than regular nuts.
I've found some at http://www.plasticnutsandbolts.com but they don't have what I need. Also tried http://www.microplastics.com and they don't have it either. Both sources have splined panel nuts, which are perfect, except I need to use a No. 8 bolt/nut rather than a 10. Any other options for suppliers or manufacturers of nylon/plastic hardware? Thanks in advance, Blue |
