hello to all.
I have a 125 gal all glass tank. My lighting is an orbit 6x96 pc. I wish I had a reef ready tank , but I dont. I done fresh for so long and my current tank is the last one I had as fresh, so I just changed it all over to salt. I run several power heads, two maxijet 1200, one maxjet 600. and one penguin 400. my skimmer is a remora c pro. For me all of this seems to be working well. My set up is still what I guess you would call new. Most of my corals have all been added in less than a year. The tank has been going for about 2 years. Oh I almost forgot . I also run two HOT box filters. One is a emperor 400 the other is a 600. I run carbon 24-7 in both. The bio wheels are not in them. I clean the filter pads once a week and change out about every two months, but add new carbon monthly. I do weekly water changes of 10%. Oh we can't forget the 200 lbs. live rock, a very important part of the set up of course. I also use only ro water, made with a coralife 50gpd unit with pump. Hope this post wasn't to long or boring.

oops mistake in last post. I do 10% water change every two weeks, with instant ocean salt.

I currently have a 58 gallon tank with a Remora protein skimmer and a hot Magnum for some carbon. I have about 80 lbs of live rock and various powerheads for flow. I am running a 20k 175 watt MH with pc lighting aswell. I have a 110 reef ready on order and hope to get it soon. (hint, hint Sam) I will be running a refugium on the new tank, i think the refugium is about 30gallons. Still trying to figure out how I am going to light this guy. I am sure I am going to use some combination of T5's as I don't want to add a chiller. Although if I am able to build the tank into a wall where there is a closet MH's are still a possibility. I too use ro/di water that I have to purchase. I have my own unit but I am too lazy to install it atm. Well, that about sums it up.

Well here we go, I started about 8 or more years ago with my first salt water tank experience, though I personally have never owned a FW tank I was amazed by the fish that you could get for SW. I first ran a 30gl then started a 65gl that I had a 4 to 4.5 ft snow-flake eel in. then started a 55gl. Had them for a good couple years and sad to say I had to stop. I have had the 65 sitting around for like 8 year and life started to settle down a bit. I have had to bug the wife to start it up, it took like 2 years and I got my wish.

I first setup the 65gl. but due to the glass being stained from age or something. I wasn’t happy with it so I picked up a 75g from Coral Reef. Even when I first started I was in to DIY stuff to try and save some money from time to time, it sure can help.

This is the current equipment I have for my 75gl SW reef.

Somewhere around 80lbs of live rock, 20 to 25 lb of it was base rock from reeferrock real nice size show rock :>. The rest is live rock which I have lost total count of the lbs.

Lights are 4x65 BOS. PC, 2x40 fluorescent actinic, 2x40 fluorescent daylights
Though it’s like 420W it doesn’t have the punch that other lights have. Needs major improvements

1 Emperor 400 with bio wheels removed. I did run the wheels for a while, but once I know things where running good I removed them. And I do not run the sponge pad that came with it I use the cages filled with carbon, and two bags of Chemi Pure in it. I plan to replace with a inline can filter running in-out of my sump.

E-sump overflow drain to my DIY 20gl L sump
Return is a 10 HF Rio at somewhere around 320GPH at 4 ft.

Coralife super skimmer 65 running in my sump

Closed loop for flow running a 12HF Rio, which I had got for my sump but was to powerful so I converted it to a closed loop. I really hate plugs and stuff in my tank, its one of my goals to keep as much out of the tanks as possible.

Sump is a 3 section 20gl L , section 1 for my skimmer with a bubble trap system ,section 2 for return pump, section 3 for my refuge which has around 3lb of rubble LR , 1.5 inches of Refugium Mineral Mud, and 1.5 inches Kent Marine Bio-Sediment. ….. My Anemones seemed to sense the nutrients in the mud because as soon as I turn the refug on started moving all over looking for, I guess a food source or something.

A DIY power station with 8 switchable power outlets and 8 non-switchable or normal outlets.
Which is great when I need to turn things off for feeding or working on the tank. And keeps cords off the ground.

10gl fresh water tank for evaporated water running with just a airline value dripping in to my return section in my sump.

A nice 75GPD RO unit I got from Coral Reef. Which I have flooded the laundry room with a couple of times ………..sorry honey. Need to get a float to improvement it.

Looks good Killingseed! That is a large Anemone!!! Great thread as I’m really into the equipment side of this hobby and spend 90% of my time with my head stuck down below!!

This is the current equipment I have for my 90gl tank which has been up since May.

The tank itself is a non-drilled basic glass tank from Petsmart on a homemade stand. I have an overflow I bought off of Ebay. This is where I have the temp probe and PH probe for the AC Jr. I have about 90 lbs of rock - some base rock and some TBS rock. 4+” DSB.

The lights are 6 HO 54W T-5’s – four in a Nova Extreme and two Ice Cap retro’s in a homemade housing.

Here is a link to the build thread: <a href= "http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=920710” target="_blank"> The Javo Insignificant</a>

Here is a pic of the overflow and part of the lights (didn’t realize how dusty they where :eek1: ):

You can just see a bit of the closed loop. I’m using a Quiet One 4000 pump.

The sump is custom from <a href=http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZacrylicmans-auctionsQQhtZ-1” target="_blank">ACRYLICMAN</a> off of ebay. Reef Devil skimmer running external. I’m running two Two Little Fishes Phosban reactors – one with carbon and the other with phosban. The return pump is a Quiet One 3000.

I recently put together an Auto Top-off system consisting of a <a href="http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_dosing_pumps_top_off_tunze_osmolator.asp?CartId="target="_blank"> Tunze Osmolator,</a>, a <a href="http://www.reeftek.com/Nilsen_Reactor.htm"target="_blank"> ReefTek Kalk Stirrer</a> and a homemade water reservoir you can see in front of the sump. Not quite done with it as I’m going to run two solenoids that the AC Jr. will control. If the PH is too high it will switch to just RO/DI water. Like this: <a href="http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=935451” target="_blank"> Add as Kalk as your tank will allow!</a>

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n172/jmait769/TopOffTank.jpg

I think the best piece of equipment I have is the AC Jr. Could not function without it now! Here is a pic of the DC-8, relays and wiring:

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n172/jmait769/Elec01.jpg

I’m using an Ebay special RO/DI unit. It supplies a 15 gallon drum from which I will eventually run a tube to the homemade reservoir and gravity feed it.

My next project will be a hood. I’m thinking of using an actuator that will raise the hood 18”.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!

Jay

Jay, I assume you have a Diamond Goby or some other jumper?

Sam - No Diamond Goby but that Hawk Fish is a real jumper. He even jumps up into the eggcrate at feeding time!! He's almost at the size where he cannot fit.
